A lot of people lost their jobs or couldn\u2019t secure a stable stream of income, and so the money problems begin! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As unpleasant as it may be, there comes a time in our adult lives when we inevitably have to face issues like these. And it sure can be a lot easier when you have the language skills to communicate about it, right? Today\u2019s text will go over a few terms to talk about personal finance in English. Let\u2019s have a look at it? Could I <strong>borrow<\/strong> 20 dollars?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">My father <strong>lent<\/strong> me 10.000 dollars to cover part of my wedding expenses.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><b>loan<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Money you borrow from a financial institution and must be paid back on the center\"><b>interest rates<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But watch out, getting a loan means they will charge you for interest rates.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Factors like the state of the economy or inflation may lead to a rise in <strong>interest rates<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What is the average <strong>interest rate<\/strong> for a loan here?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><b>mortgage<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The money you borrow to buy real estate.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Taking out<\/strong> a <strong>mortgage<\/strong> is a big money drainer, but it is still better than paying rent.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you fail to pay your <strong>mortgage<\/strong>, you run the risk of having your home repossessed.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 to a person or an institution, this could mean that you are in debt.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Due to the recession, the company is now deeply <strong>in debt<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Getting a college education in the US could mean being <strong>in debt<\/strong> for many years to come.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><b>in the red<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Another way to say that you spent more money than you earned is to say you are in the red.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If we remain <strong>in the red<\/strong> for longer, we\u2019ll eventually go out of business.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">My account is 500 dollars<strong> in the red<\/strong>, I hope I can get my paycheck soon.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><b>overdraft<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And if you spend more than you have on your bank account, a bank might temporarily allow you to have an overdraft.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">My bank account has a 300 dollar limit on <strong>overdrafts<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Be careful with your spending so you don\u2019t <strong>run up an overdraft<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><b>pay off<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On the other hand, you can pay off your debts and no no longer owes money.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Haley managed to save up enough money to <strong>pay off<\/strong> her students loans.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Three more months and the car will finally be <strong>paid off<\/strong>!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div job, his family had to <strong>bail him out<\/strong> so he wouldn\u2019t lose his house.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The government is discussing a plan to <strong>bail out<\/strong> businesses who couldn&#8217;t operate during the lockdown.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><b>(dig\/dip into your) savings<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When money is tight, you might have to dig into your savings.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I had to <strong>dig into my savings<\/strong> to pay for the hospital bills.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">George was unemployed for 4 months, so he had to start <strong>dipping into his savings<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><b>(file for) bankruptcy<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And finally, when you see yourself unable to pay off your debts, you declare bankruptcy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Businesses in the hospitality industry<strong> filing for bankruptcies<\/strong> has been increasing
