We don&#8217;t have enough political heroes to celebrate in America, unfortunately. We have our founding fathers, a handful of spectacular presidents, and a few civil rights leaders worth commemorating. While it seems to some that our culture has not produced <strong>multaj herooj<\/strong>, I say that this lack of noteworthy figures is more a testament to the greatness of those we do recognize. Only a man as great as Martin Luther King, Jr. deserves his own day, to commemorate his lifelong struggle for equality and civil rights.<\/p>\n<p>(<em>hodiaux<\/em> = today; <em>celebri<\/em> = to celebrate; <em>penado<\/em> = effort. <em>Heroo<\/em> = hero.)<\/p>\n<p>Enough literature has been written about MLK, so I need not offer him my paltry powers in this blog entry. I think I can accurately say, though, that MLK showcased the kind of spirit that the Esperanto movement strives to bring out in people. King fought for a world where all human beings are treated equally, and where the free discourse of ideas is encouraged. Esperanto aims for the same, albeit from a language perspective.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pripensu MLK-n, kaj memoru lin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>(<em>pripensi<\/em> = to think about, to ponder; &#8211;<em>u<\/em> = denotes imperative tense. <em>Memori<\/em> = to remember.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hodiaux en Usono ni celebras la penadojn de Martin Luther King.
