Both nations love tea!<\/p>\n<p>Now, let\u2019s be more specific! I\u2019m not an expert in British culture but I can tell you how Iranians like to prepare their tea\u00a0&#8220;chai<strong>&#8220;<\/strong>\u00a0\u0686\u0627\u06cc\u00a0, drink it, and a lot more.<\/p>\n<p>Tea in Iranian culture is more than just a beverage. It is a lifestyle. If you hang out with an Iranian, whether at work, their house, or in a picnic, it won\u2019t take long until they would propose the idea of having some tea!<\/p>\n<p>The most common type of tea consumed in Iran is cardamom black tea. The\u00a0brewed black tea is often served with\u00a0&#8220;sugar cubes&#8221;\u00a0<em>ghand<\/em> \u0642\u0646\u062f, which you can place between your teeth, then sip the tea and let the sugar dissolve immediately. Iranians find this a convenient way to drink multiple cups of tea, especially when the weather is cold. You may use other sweets and pastries, or drink your tea just like your coffee &#8211; \u00a0black. Think of a good cup of tea as a good cup of coffee; the higher the concentration of caffeine, the better.<\/p>\n<p>There is not a set time for drinking tea. Iranians like to have their tea with breakfast, after lunch, after their afternoon nap, or even at 10:00 p.m.\u00a0The sound of popping the\u00a0&#8220;kettle&#8221;,\u00a0\u00a0<em>ketri<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0\u06a9\u062a\u0631\u06cc\u00a0is the most magical sound in Iranian households and brings people together.\u00a0Tea is\u00a0served hot at almost all social occasions and family gatherings.\u00a0The color of\u00a0Iranian tea\u00a0is dark red and the taste is fairly light. It is also delicious without even adding any milk or sugar.<\/p>\n<p>The traditional device for brewing tea is called\u00a0<em>samovar<\/em> \u0633\u0645\u0627\u0648\u0631, which originates from Russia and the tradition adapted from Russian tea culture by the Persian empire. Iranians usually turn on their Samovars each day in the morning and put a &#8220;teapot&#8221;\u00a0<em>ghoori<\/em>\u00a0\u0642\u0648\u0631\u06cc\u00a0on top of it and they won\u2019t turn it off until the day ends.<\/p>\n<p>One of the popular versions of black tea is called <em>Chaii Shirin<\/em> &#8220;sweat tea&#8221; \u0686\u0627\u06cc\u06cc \u0634\u06cc\u0631\u06cc\u0646, which is a favorite for breakfast. \u0686\u0627\u06cc\u06cc \u0634\u06cc\u0631\u06cc\u0646 consists of black tea and sugar and when you stir the tea, you will have <em>Chaii Shirin<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are many &#8220;tea houses&#8221;<em> chai khaane\u00a0<\/em>\u0686\u0627\u06cc\u062e\u0627\u0646\u0647\u00a0throughout Iran where you can drink different flavors of tea. A typical\u00a0\u0686\u0627\u06cc\u062e\u0627\u0646\u0647\u00a0offers\u00a0&#8220;beds&#8221;\u00a0<em>takhts<\/em>\u00a0\u062a\u062e\u062a\u00a0\u00a0or low-rise platforms covered in Persian rugs and pillows that you may relax on.<\/p>\n<p>\u0686\u0627\u06cc\u062e\u0627\u0646\u0647 can face a river, mountains, a natural scenery, or walls often painted with Iranian classical epic stories such as \u0634\u0627\u0647\u0646\u0627\u0645\u0647.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Visitors can enjoy a unique perspective and\u00a0<em>painted<\/em>\u00a0imaginary scenes using\u00a0<em>epics<\/em> and religion as the main themes of artwork drawn on the\u00a0<em>walls while they drink their tea.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned to hear more about this style of painting in Iran in my future blogs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>How would you like to take your tea?
