Nearly\u00a0four years ago, on July 9th 2006<\/strong> in Berlin<\/strong>, at precisely\u00a0the 110th minute<\/strong>, Zinedine Zidane<\/strong>‘s last act following a longstanding\u00a0heroic carri\u00e8re <\/em>internationale<\/em>\u00a0(international career)\u00a0was to deliver a completely unexpected\u00a0coup de boule<\/strong> <\/em>(a headbutt<\/strong>) to the upper chest of the Italian player\u00a0Marco Materazzi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

– Where were you watching the game, and what was your initial reaction back then?

Even before that the reasons of Zidane’s reaction were to be announced to\u00a0le<\/em> grand public<\/em>\u00a0(the wide public), a French sondage <\/em>(poll) showed that the majority of French people had already forgiven\u00a0le<\/em> capitaine des Bleus <\/em>for his geste<\/em>; a fact which alone reflects\u00a0the extent of\u00a0affection and admiration\u00a0he enjoyed -and still enjoys- in France.<\/p>\n

Naturalement <\/em>(naturally), a\u00a0tremendous and passionate international uproar emerged in the aftermath\u00a0of\u00a0the f\u00e2cheux <\/em>incident<\/em>, ranging from the psychologically probing\u00a0analysis and the intervention of\u00a0professional lip-readers who\u00a0went to extraordinary lengths in order\u00a0to decipher the actual\u00a0words\u00a0exchanged between the two embattled players, to the second degr\u00e9<\/em> (tongue-in-cheek) reactions on the Internet, such as\u00a0the\u00a0overwhelming plethora of Youtube videos parodying the “incident”– in their own mani\u00e8re<\/em>, of course.<\/p>\n
