{"id":132,"date":"2009-09-28T09:40:09","date_gmt":"2009-09-28T13:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/?p=129"},"modified":"2009-09-28T09:40:09","modified_gmt":"2009-09-28T13:40:09","slug":"writing-a-letter-in-french","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/writing-a-letter-in-french\/","title":{"rendered":"Writing a Letter in French"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Do you ever need to write a letter in French either for work, school or pleasure? \u00a0Well, today, I&#8217;m going to try to help you out a bit with this task. \u00a0First, let&#8217;s talk about a formal\/business letter. \u00a0Let&#8217;s say you need to write a letter to a company asking for information. \u00a0You can put your company name and address in the top, left-hand corner. \u00a0You place the city you are writing from, a comma, and the current date in the top, right-hand corner. \u00a0About four lines down you write the name and address of the place you&#8217;re writing to again in the top, right-hand corner. \u00a0If you are writing in response or in relation to anything that has a reference number, place that reference number aligned to the left after the words &#8220;<em>Ref.<\/em>&#8221; or &#8220;<em>Objet<\/em>&#8220;. \u00a0Another four lines down, you write &#8220;<em>Madame,<\/em>&#8221; (if you&#8217;re writing to a woman) or &#8220;<em>Monsieur,<\/em>&#8221; (if you&#8217;re writing to a man) to the left. \u00a0You can write the name of the person before the comma if you know who you are writing to. \u00a0If you don&#8217;t know whether the person receiving the letter is a man or woman, you can write &#8220;Monsieur,Madame,&#8221;<br \/>\nThen, you indent once and begin the body of your letter. \u00a0After you finish the body of the letter, you write one of the ready-made long closings (<em><strong>f<\/strong><strong>ormule de politesse<\/strong><\/em>) just like a paragraph. \u00a0Finally, you sign the letter aligned to the right. \u00a0If you&#8217;d like you can include your job position\/written name aligned to the right just above your signature. \u00a0 And that&#8217;s it! \u00a0Your letter might look something like this:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\">Club de Fran\u00e7ais<br \/>\n105, rue de la Gait\u00e9<br \/>\n75014 PARIS<\/p>\n<p>Monsieur, Madame,<\/p>\n<p>Voulez-vous avoir l&#8217;obligeance de m&#8217;envoyer une documentation sur votre club (cotisation, programme d&#8217;activit\u00e9s, etc.)\u00a0\u00e0 l&#8217;adresse suivante\u00a0:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">M.
