The fanciest party I\u2019ve ever been to…<\/p>\n

Le chic.<\/p><\/div>\n

…was not this one. This was my office holiday party last year. Couple of goons.<\/p>\n

La f\u00eate la plus \u00e9l\u00e9gante \u00e0 laquelle j\u2019ai jamais assist\u00e9<\/em> (assister<\/em>= to attend) \u00e9tait le Gala Sciences Po<\/strong> en 2008<\/em>. Sciences Po is a university, or more properly une grande \u00e9cole<\/em>, meaning a private university ranking among the most elite in France. (Hichem a d\u00e9j\u00e0 discut\u00e9 les grandes \u00e9coles.<\/a>) <\/em>Le Gala Sciences Po is a black-tie soir\u00e9e <\/em>for the future leaders of France and the poorly dressed international students who sneak in for un semestre<\/em>. Le Gala was held in the old Intercontinental Hotel in Paris et je n\u2019ai jamais vu rien d\u2019aussi chic dans ma vie<\/em> (I\u2019ve never seen anything so chic in my life).<\/p>\n

But perhaps the fanciest party in the world was last week: the Vogue Paris Masquerade Ball<\/strong>. Vous avez d\u00e9j\u00e0 entendu parler? <\/em>You may have already heard of it if you are accro <\/em>(addicted) to French style blogs, comme moi<\/em>. La f\u00eate a \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7ue <\/em>(the party was conceived) pour les 90 ans de Vogue Paris<\/em>. For the 90th anniversary, r\u00e9dactrice en chef <\/em>Carine Roitfeld invited 600 people to a bal masqu\u00e9<\/em><\/strong>, <\/em>and the results are all over the internet.<\/p>\n

On ne parle pas assez de la mode sur ce blog<\/em>, which is merciful since I certainly am not qualified to talk about style. Mais je sais bien que j\u2019aime les costumes (et il sera bient\u00f4t Halloween!). <\/em>One can\u2019t help but be fascinated by les photos du bal masqu\u00e9<\/em>, even the train wrecks like Tyra Banks. Je vous encourage <\/em>to jump on the Googles and d\u00e9couvrir cet \u00e9v\u00e8nement<\/em>. I couldn’t find any good videos, but for a sense, try Vogue Paris: Fashion’s Night Out:<\/p>\n

But the current issue (num\u00e9ro<\/em>) is $15 in the US. \u00c7a vaut le coup? <\/em> Moins cher qu\u2019un billet d\u2019avion…. <\/em>or just wait for Halloween and have your own bal masqu\u00e9!<\/em><\/p>\n
