{"id":19867,"date":"2013-11-20T22:31:10","date_gmt":"2013-11-20T21:31:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/?p=19867"},"modified":"2017-10-20T16:00:35","modified_gmt":"2017-10-20T14:00:35","slug":"bravo-la-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/bravo-la-france\/","title":{"rendered":"Bravo la France !"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>French people often like to remind each other that &#8220;<strong><em>\u00e0\u00a0l&#8217;impossible, nul n&#8217;est tenu<\/em><\/strong>&#8220;, namely that &#8220;<strong>no one is expected to accomplish the impossible<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Last night, however,\u00a0<strong><em>les Bleus <\/em><\/strong>made a point of honor in proving the accuracy of another French maxim: &#8220;<strong><em>Impossible n&#8217;est pas fran\u00e7ais<\/em><\/strong>&#8220;, meaning that &#8220;<strong>Impossible is not French<\/strong>&#8220;!<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"France - Ukraine : la joie des Bleus !\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pUcUKLAlHgA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>L&#8217;immense joie des Bleus apr<strong><em>\u00e8<\/em><\/strong>s la qualification <strong><em>\u00e0<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0la Coupe du Monde du Br<\/strong><strong><strong>\u00e9<\/strong><\/strong><strong>sil<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><strong>(The tremendous joy of <em>les Bleus\u00a0<\/em>after the qualification to the Brazil World Cup)!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The prospects of attending <em><strong>la Coupe du Monde<\/strong><\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(the World Cup) in <strong>Brazil<\/strong> next year did not seem too bright for the teammates of <strong>Rib\u00e9ry<\/strong>, just 24 hours ago.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly all the French sports commentators, from <em><strong>L&#8217;\u00c9quipe<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>Onze Mondial<\/strong><\/em>, to <em><strong>France Football<\/strong>,<\/em>\u00a0prematurely &#8220;buried&#8221; <em><strong>les Bleus<\/strong>,<\/em> after the pale performence they offered last Friday in <strong>Kiev<\/strong>, where they conceded a defeat of\u00a0<strong><em>deux\u00a0<strong><em>\u00e0 z<strong>\u00e9ro<\/strong><\/em><\/strong><\/em><strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong>(two to zero) against <strong>Ukraine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Back in France, however, the French squad unveiled<strong>\u00a0<em>un visage compl\u00e8tement diff<strong>\u00e9<\/strong>rent<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(an entirely different face.)<\/p>\n<p>Although scoring three whole goals looked at first like\u00a0<em><strong>une mission<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>impossible<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0one could still sense the strong\u00a0<em><strong>envie de gagner<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>(will to win) which motivated them throughout\u00a0the ninety minutes of the game.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Le r\u00eave br<em><strong>\u00e9<\/strong><\/em>silien<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(the Brazilian dream) started to look more and more realistic when, just <strong><em>douze minutes apr<strong><em>\u00e8<\/em><\/strong>s le premier but<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>(twelve minutes after the first goal), a lucky <strong>Karim Benzema<\/strong> found himself <em><strong>nez-\u00e0-nez<\/strong><\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>with the goal. He only had to shoot to score the second <strong>but<\/strong>, thus<em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0leveling the global score\u00a0<strong>2-2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, French bashers will be quick to point out that the French attacker was in a flagrant\u00a0<strong><em>position d&#8217;hors jeu<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0<\/em>(offside position), implying that once again France had somehow &#8220;stolen&#8221; its World Cup ticket thanks to yet another dirty trick (remember <strong>Thierry Henry<\/strong>&#8216;s handball against <strong>Ireland<\/strong>, anyone?)<\/p>\n<p>The replay does indeed prove that Benzema was offside.
