Sometimes,\u00a0nothing seems to be\u00a0easier than feeling\u00a0nostalgique<\/strong> <\/em>about your\u00a0jeune<\/em><\/strong> enfance<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(young childhood.) But then you should try to think again,\u00a0putting things in a\u00a0clearer and more objective\u00a0perspective, until you remember when you\u00a0were a\u00a0boy who’s not even ten years old yet, and all\u00a0you could hear\u00a0playing all day long\u00a0in la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision\u00a0<\/em>or la radio <\/em>were songs that you and your buddies\u00a0dismissed as\u00a0des chansons de mauviettes<\/strong> <\/em>(“wussy” or “wimpy”\u00a0songs), with nothing else but that, 24\/7… Quel cauchemar !<\/strong> <\/em>(What a nightmare!)<\/p>\n

And of course, you\u00a0only\u00a0had\u00a0quelques K7<\/strong> <\/em>(read cassettes) that you’re allowed to buy from your “own” hard-earned argent de poche<\/strong> <\/em>(pocket money), because at that time there were no such revolutionary\u00a0tools as\u00a0Youtube<\/strong> or iTunes!

Oui d’accord<\/em>, that’s the Dawson guy,\u00a0not Roch Voisine, but he’s definitely\u00a0acting like a mauviette<\/em> here!<\/strong><\/div>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>Naturally, Roch Voisine’s hit-songs didn’t have a hard time\u00a0fitting into our r\u00e9pertoire <\/em>of chansons de mauviettes, <\/em>a.k.a. “de pleurnichons<\/strong><\/em>” (of “cry-babies”) -together of course\u00a0with so many other French songs of that time\u00a0that can’t possibly\u00a0be exhaustively\u00a0listed here in\u00a0just one blog post- but nearly\u00a0vingt ans apr\u00e8s <\/em>(twenty years later), looking\u00a0back at them makes it an interesting “voyage dans le pass\u00e9<\/strong><\/em>“, or if you prefer, a\u00a0“blast from the past<\/strong>“!<\/p>\n

Plus s\u00e9rieusement <\/em>(on a more serious note), if you look close you will find in today’s featured\u00a0song a few references\u00a0to much older songs that\u00a0have already been presented\u00a0here in The French Blog <\/strong>(see the links\u00a0available in\u00a0the lyrics), with some allusions<\/em>\u00a0being more obvious than others.<\/p>\n

Et encore plus s\u00e9rieusement <\/em>(and on an even more serious note), I think it’s safe to say\u00a0today that\u00a0lorsque nous \u00e9tions\u00a0plus jeunes\u00a0<\/em>(when we were younger), we listened more\u00a0to la musique voisine du Rock<\/strong> <\/em>(music neighboring Rock) than\u00a0la musique de\u00a0Roch Voisine<\/em><\/strong>…<\/p>\n

For those who don’t know what the family name of the French-Canadian singer means, it\u00a0is “a (female) neighbor.”<\/p>\n

Et pourtant <\/em>(and yet), having said that, we let you now mellow out with Roch Voisine’s song called\u00a0“Pourtant<\/strong>” (“Yet.)<\/p>\n
