Mayle had <b>une carri\u00e8re lucrative<\/b> (a lucrative career) in advertising in England but decided to leave it all behind to commit himself to a new career as <b>un \u00e9crivain<\/b> (a writer) in Provence. Accompanied by his wife Jennie, Mayle purchased a home in the village of M\u00e9nerbes and decided to write about his experiences as a British expatriate living in a new country. <i>A Year in Provence<\/i><b> <\/b>became an international best seller, has been translated into more than twenty languages, and is the most famous of a series of books Mayle wrote about Provence.<\/p>\n<p><i>A Year in Provence<\/i> is divided into<b> douze chapitres<\/b> (twelve chapters), each one dedicated to a month of the year and covering <b>les quatres saisons: hiver, printemps, \u00e9t\u00e9, automne<\/b> (the four seasons: winter, spring, summer, fall). Mayle recounts his experiences learning the French language, enjoying <b>la cuisine Proven\u00e7ale<\/b> <b>et bien s\u00fbr le soleil <\/b>(Proven\u00e7ale cuisine and of course the sun), surviving <b>le Mistral<\/b> (a strong wind that can reach up to 100 km\/hour) and forging long-lasting friendships <b>avec le facteur<\/b> (with the postman), <b>les voisins<\/b> (the neighbors) and <b>les ouvriers<\/b> (the workers) he hires to renovate their home.<\/p>\n<p>The book is available on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0679731148\/ref=s9_psimh_gw_p74_d1_i4?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;pf_rd_s=center-2&amp;pf_rd_r=0PQEJ2AR6TV3TKYVAX1W&amp;pf_rd_t=101&amp;pf_rd_p=1688200382&amp;pf_rd_i=507846\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amazon.com<\/a>,\u00a0but if you aren\u2019t much of a reader, you\u2019ll be happy to know it has been made into a TV <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00005NKCN\/ref=s9_psimh_gw_p74_d1_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&amp;pf_rd_s=center-2&amp;pf_rd_r=0PQEJ2AR6TV3TKYVAX1W&amp;pf_rd_t=101&amp;pf_rd_p=1688200382&amp;pf_rd_i=507846\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mini-series<\/a> produced by the BBC and featuring British actors John Thaw as Peter Mayle and Lindsay Duncan as his wife Jennie. Pay attention to Mayle\u2019s vivid descriptions of Proven\u00e7ale food in particular. It will make your mouth water.<\/p>\n<p>For those of you who have already visited Provence, you will certainly relive your experiences through this book.
