I was trying to convert my entire life into French. I watched <strong>la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision fran\u00e7aise<\/strong> (French television), watched<strong> des films fran\u00e7ais<\/strong> (French movies), listened to <strong>la musique fran\u00e7aise<\/strong> (French music), and followed <strong>l&#8217;actualit\u00e9 fran\u00e7aise<\/strong> (French news). Even though my French wasn\u2019t really good enough to understand most of what I was hearing, I tried to understand everything I could.<\/p>\n<p>I would often listen to <strong>les nouvelles<\/strong> (the news) from <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rfi.fr\/\"><em>Radio France internationale<\/em><\/a><\/strong>, a French public radio station that specializes in international affairs with a bit of a focus on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-around-the-world-la-francophonie\/\">la Francophonie<\/a><\/strong>. Normally after several hours of listening to <strong>RFI<\/strong> my brain would just be fried.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Un jour<\/strong> (one day), while spending hours listening to <strong>RFI<\/strong>, I noticed <strong>une \u00e9mission<\/strong> (show) that was specially designed for people learning French: <em>le journal en fran\u00e7ais facile<\/em> (The news in easy French).<\/p>\n<p><em>Le journal en fran\u00e7ais facile<\/em> is &#8220;<em>Un journal qui pr\u00e9sente l&#8217;actualit\u00e9 avec des mots simples et explique les \u00e9v\u00e9nements dans leur contexte<\/em>&#8220;: A news broadcast that presents current affairs with simple words and explains the events in their context.<\/p>\n<p>I was happy to find a show that covers news stories in clearly spoken French and it even had transcripts available so I could look up all the words I didn&#8217;t know!<\/p>\n<p><strong>L&#8217;\u00e9mission<\/strong> starts with a brief introduction naming the various topics that will be discussed, then presents each of them in more detail, including audio exerts from the original stories, typically spoken much faster and less clearly than <strong>les animateurs<\/strong> (the presenters).<\/p>\n<p>To find these stories in <strong>fran\u00e7ais facile<\/strong>, <strong>il suffit de<\/strong> (you just have to) go to the <strong>RFI<\/strong> website dedicated to French learners. The whole page is in French, but it&#8217;s not too <strong>difficile<\/strong> (difficult) to navigate.
