Si vous r\u00e9pondez &#8220;oui,&#8221; quels sont vos livres pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9s?<\/p>\n<p>I love to read. Some books have changed my life and some have saved my life. They&#8217;ve transformed\u00a0the way I view the world and the people around me, have taught me how to empathize, and have helped guide me through rough patches in my life.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-28749\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/05\/book-1626072_960_720.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"747\" height=\"560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/05\/book-1626072_960_720.jpg 960w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/05\/book-1626072_960_720-350x263.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/05\/book-1626072_960_720-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 747px) 100vw, 747px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And, of course, a great many of these books that I have fallen in love with were originally written in French. I&#8217;ll tell you more about my favorite French-language books below. But, first, here&#8217;s a list of vocabulary about books and reading, which will prove useful if you&#8217;re a bibliophile:<\/p>\n<p><em>un roman<\/em> &#8212; a novel<\/p>\n<p><em>Un livre de poche<\/em> &#8212; This means, largely, a paperback novel. This is also a large French imprint of La librarie g\u00e9n\u00e9rale fran\u00e7aise that publishes paperbacks.<\/p>\n<p><em>Une histoire vraie\/v\u00e9cue<\/em> &#8212; non-fiction. In France, it&#8217;s more common to hear &#8220;<em>une histoire vraie.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Un bouquin &#8212;\u00a0<\/em>This is the familiar way of saying &#8220;book.&#8221; You&#8217;ll hear this all the time.<\/p>\n<p><em>Les bouquinistes &#8212;\u00a0<\/em>These are the antique and used booksellers set up all along the Seine in Paris. Don&#8217;t miss checking these out.<\/p>\n<p><em>Une librairie &#8212;\u00a0<\/em>A bookstore. This can be confusing for English speakers.<\/p>\n<p><em>Une biblioth\u00e8que &#8212;\u00a0<\/em>A library<\/p>\n<p><em>Un dictionnaire &#8211;\u00a0<\/em>A dictionary<\/p>\n<p><em>Une nouvelle &#8212;\u00a0<\/em>A short story<\/p>\n<p><em>Un conte\u00a0<\/em>&#8212; A tale. For example, <em>un conte de f\u00e9es<\/em> would be a fairy tale, also known as <em>un conte merveilleux<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>La poesie &#8212;\u00a0<\/em>Poetry.<\/p>\n<p><em>Les romans policiers &#8212;\u00a0<\/em>Mystery novels. This would be an example of a\u00a0<em>genre<\/em>, or type of book, a familiar word to English speakers because it has been adopted into English.<\/p>\n<p><em>Un\/une auteur(e) &#8212;\u00a0<\/em>An author<\/p>\n<p><em>La litt\u00e9rature \u00e9trang\u00e8re &#8212;<\/em>Foreign literature<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00c9crire\/r\u00e9diger &#8212;\u00a0<\/em>To write. While\u00a0<em>\u00e9crire\u00a0<\/em>is a more familiar verb,\u00a0<em>r\u00e9diger\u00a0<\/em>is the correct verb to use in the case of writing a longer work, such as a book.\u00a0<em>\u00c9crire\u00a0<\/em>signifies &#8220;the act of writing,&#8221; while\u00a0<em>r\u00e9diger\u00a0<\/em>means writing a longer, meaningful and coherent text.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00c9diter &#8212;\u00a0<\/em>To edit<\/p>\n<p><em>Imprimer &#8212;\u00a0<\/em>To print<\/p>\n<p><em>Publier &#8212; <\/em>To publish<\/p>\n<p>Take these vocabulary words and try to create a paragraph of French text, such as the one below:<\/p>\n<p><i>Quand j&#8217;ai habit\u00e9 sur Paris, j&#8217;allais souvent chez les bouquinistes pour acheter des livres de poche. J&#8217;aime plus acheter des\u00a0bouquins d&#8217;occasion que d&#8217;aller en acheter chez la librairie.
