Pendant le moi de juin<\/strong> (During the month of June) there\u2019s a big event that\u2019s worth talking about that’s not mon anniversaire<\/strong><\/a> (my birthday) or du g\u00e2teau<\/strong><\/a> (cake).<\/p>\n

Every year on June 21 there is a huge party across all of France. C’est la f\u00eate de la musique ! U<\/strong>ne f\u00eate<\/strong> (a celebration\/festival) with all kinds of music all day long! I’m a big fan of la musique francophone<\/strong>, whether it’s Edith Piaf<\/a>, Jaques Brel<\/a>, Luise Attaque<\/a>, Bernard Adamus<\/a>, or Daft Punk<\/a>, so it’s a great day to profiter de la musique<\/strong> (enjoy the music).<\/p>\n

L’histoire de la f\u00eate <\/strong>is rather interesting! La f\u00eate<\/strong> started when an American musician, Joel Cohen, wanted to create une f\u00eate de la musique<\/strong> during les solstices<\/strong>. That first f\u00eate<\/strong> happend in 1976, and la musique<\/strong> started up again in 1981, but it wasn\u2019t until 1983 that la f\u00eate<\/strong> became official.<\/p>\n

June 21st was chosen because it often coincides with le jour le plus long de l\u2019ann\u00e9e<\/strong> (the longest day of the year). All that daylight means people can party late into the night listening to all the great music!<\/p>\n

During la f\u00eate<\/strong> amateurs and professionals play music or perform concerts in the streets or in public squares. In order to be an official part of la f\u00eate de la musique<\/strong>, concerts must be free! Everyone is encouraged to participate under the slogan Faites de la musique <\/em>(make music), a pun of F\u00eate de la musique<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The first time I was in France for la f\u00eate de la musique<\/strong>, I was very surprised by les foules<\/strong> (the crowds) and la musique<\/strong>. I didn\u2019t know what la f\u00eate de la musique<\/strong> was, but enjoyed the waves of music all throughout the city.<\/p>\n

A bit less enjoyable was trying to going home to my second floor<\/a> studio and trying to sleep with music playing well into the early morning!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\"\"
