Getting used to French working hours<\/a> is pretty easy. You just need to plan ahead a little bit, and you can always find small things that are still ouvert<\/strong> (open) to hold you over if you’re caught in a long holiday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I was fine with all of that and working with the French schedule, until I needed des m\u00e9dicaments<\/strong> (medicine) on a Sunday. Waking up one Sunday morning not sure how I would be able to get des m\u00e9dicaments<\/strong> was not a fun way to start the day. I was already sick, but I knew I could get over it with the right m\u00e9dicaments<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

J’\u00e9tais convaincu que<\/strong> (I was convinced that) I’d need to suffer through the day and just wait for lundi matin<\/strong> (Monday morning). After some research, I learned about les pharmacies de garde<\/strong> (emergency pharmacies).<\/p>\n

Understanding the importance of l’acc\u00e8s aux m\u00e9dicaments<\/strong> (the access to medicine), des pharmacies<\/strong> take turns being open le dimanche<\/strong> (on Sundays). De cette mani\u00e8re <\/strong>(in this way) there is always une pharmacie<\/strong> ouverte<\/strong> nearby.<\/p>\n

I knew \u201c24 hour culture\u201d didn’t exist in France, but was happy to learn la pharmacie de garde<\/strong> includes night services for emergencies. Even though you wont find a supermarket on every corner ouvert 24<\/a> sur 24<\/strong> (open 24 hours), there’s always something open for an emergency.<\/p>\n

I also found the useful website, PharmaciedeGarde.com<\/a>, for finding the closest pharmacie de garde<\/strong>. Choose your d\u00e9partement et ville<\/strong> (department and city), and it will show you which pharmacies sont ouvertes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On that fateful dimanche<\/strong>, once I found la pharmacie de garde<\/strong>, I was able to get des m\u00e9dicaments<\/strong> and was feeling better by the afternoon!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\"\"
