However, <strong>les trains<\/strong> are often more expensive than you would think!<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully there are alternatives like <strong>le covoiturage<\/strong> (carpooling), and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/travelling-in-french-le-nouvel-an-en-belgique\/\">l\u2019autocar<\/a><\/strong> (intercity bus).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-28900\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/paris-211680_960_720.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"795\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/paris-211680_960_720.jpg 960w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/paris-211680_960_720-350x235.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/paris-211680_960_720-768x515.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 795px) 100vw, 795px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Until recently it was difficult to take <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/5-things-i-found-out-in-france\/\">un bus<\/a><\/strong> over a long distance in France. However, private transportation companies have created <strong>des nouveaux r\u00e9seaux<\/strong> (new networks) for <strong>les autocars <\/strong>with companies like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isilines.fr\/\"><em>Isilines<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flixbus.fr\"><em>Flixbus<\/em><\/a>, and it is now easy and affordable to travel from city to city <strong>en bus !<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gouvernement.fr\/action\/le-projet-de-loi-pour-la-croissance-l-activite-et-l-egalite-des-chances-economiques\"><strong>La loi Macron<\/strong><\/a>, which aims to open up France\u2019s economy, is what allowed this change. Before <strong>la loi <\/strong>(the law), in order for a bus to legally travel through France, it had to be a part of an international route or be a part of <strong>la SNCF<\/strong> (<em>la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 nationale de chemins de fer fran\u00e7ais<\/em>, The French National Railroad Company).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ceci dit<\/strong> (that said) international bus travel has always been an option from France, even if <strong>le train<\/strong> or <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/aeroports-and-avions-taking-a-plane-in-french\/\"><strong>l&#8217;avion<\/strong><\/a> are more popular <strong>moyens de transport <\/strong>(transportation methods). <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eurolines.fr\"><em>Eurolines<\/em><\/a> is <strong>une entreprise<\/strong> (a company) that focuses on international bus travel in Europe and has routes from and to nearly any city in Europe!<\/p>\n<p>The downside is you have to be on <strong>un bus<\/strong> for a <em>very, very, very<\/em> long time. It\u2019s an experience, but I would not recommend it unless you are willing to be cramped in a small seat for over a day.<\/p>\n<p>The confusing part about all these <strong>moyens de transports<\/strong> is how many of them are <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/5-faux-amis-to-watch-out-for\/\"><strong>des faux amis<\/strong><\/a> (false friends), and the similarities can easily lead to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/more-mistakes-thinking-in-english\/\">mistakes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Un bus <\/strong>or<strong> un autobus<\/strong> is a normal city bus or bus that goes throughout <strong>le d\u00e9partement<\/strong>, while <strong>un autocar <\/strong>or<strong> un car<\/strong> is an intercity bus that goes between far away cities or even in between countries.<\/p>\n<p>On top of that, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/planes-trains-and-carpooling-in-france\/\"><em>blabla<strong>car<\/strong><\/em><\/a> is a website that helps you find people willing to share <strong>leur voiture<\/strong> (their car)!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Un bus, un autobus<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>A local (city or county) bus<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Un car, un autocar<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>An intercity bus<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Blablacar<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Website for carpooling (le covoiturage)<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The easy way to remember the differences is that <strong>un bus<\/strong> is a <em>normal<\/em> bus you take to get around a city, <strong>un car<\/strong> is like a greyhound bus, and <em><strong>blabla<\/strong>car<\/em> is about all the talking (<em>blah blah<\/em>) you have to do when carpooling!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<img width=\"350\" height=\"235\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/paris-211680_960_720-350x235.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/paris-211680_960_720-350x235.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/paris-211680_960_720-768x515.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/01\/paris-211680_960_720.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><p>Europe is famous for how easy it is to travel en train.
