{"id":23118,"date":"2016-03-30T16:25:47","date_gmt":"2016-03-30T14:25:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/?p=23118"},"modified":"2017-10-24T15:49:27","modified_gmt":"2017-10-24T13:49:27","slug":"sick-as-a-dog-catching-a-cold-in-french","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/sick-as-a-dog-catching-a-cold-in-french\/","title":{"rendered":"Sick As A Dog &#8211; Catching A Cold In French"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I woke up <strong>l\u2019autre jour<\/strong> (the other day) feeling sick.<\/p>\n<p>The combination of <strong>les maux, le nez bouch\u00e9 et le mal \u00e0 la gorge<\/strong> (the aches, a stuffy nose, and a sore throat) let me know I had to get myself to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/en-garde-pharmacies-are-always-open\/\"><strong>une pharmacie<\/strong><\/a> or I\u2019d end up calling <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/who-ya-gonna-call-not-nine-one-one\/\">les urgences<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-28923\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/03\/thermometer-833085_960_720.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"759\" height=\"505\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I took <strong>une douche chaude<\/strong> (a hot shower) to try and clear my head and make the day a bit more bearable. <strong>Heureusement<\/strong> (fortunately), <strong>la douche chaude<\/strong> combined with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/a-cup-of-coffee-un-cafe-sil-vous-plait\/\">un caf\u00e9<\/a><\/strong> helped keep me up, but then <strong>la toux<\/strong> (the coughing) started.<\/p>\n<p>The only thought in my head as I worked up the energy to walk to <strong>la pharmacie<\/strong> and buy <strong>les m\u00e9dicaments<\/strong> (the medicine):<\/p>\n<p><strong>Je suis malade comme <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/the-dog-days-are-over-french-expressions-with-chien\/\">un chien<\/a>.<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>I am sick as a dog.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I wasn\u2019t <strong>fatigu\u00e9 \u00e0 cause du d\u00e9calage horaire<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/aeroports-and-avions-taking-a-plane-in-french\/\">jet lagged<\/a>) and I didn\u2019t have <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/the-14th-of-july-french-fireworks\/\">la gueule de bois<\/a><\/strong> (a hangover),<strong> j&#8217;\u00e9tais malade<\/strong>. <strong>Je toussais et j\u2019\u00e9ternuais<\/strong> (I was coughing and I was sneezing) as I bought <strong>les m\u00e9dicaments<\/strong> and made my way back to <strong>mon lit<\/strong> (my bed).<\/p>\n<p>Then <strong>mon ami<\/strong> <em><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/voici-jean-guromarch-real-french-series\/\">Jean<\/a><\/em> called asking if I could still go out that night:<\/p>\n<p>Salut John ! \u00c7a va ?<br \/>\n<em>Kof Kof<\/em>\u00a0 \u2013 \u00c7a va\u2026<br \/>\nT\u2019es s\u00fbr que \u00e7a va ?<br \/>\n<em>Atchoum<\/em> \u2013 En fait, j\u2019ai attrap\u00e9 un rhume.<br \/>\nAh ouais, alors tu peux pas sortir ?<br \/>\nJe pense pas.<br \/>\nTu as du miel ?<br \/>\nDu miel ?<br \/>\nOui, c\u2019est bon pour un rhume !<br \/>\nAh ouais, merci ! \u2013 <em>Kof kof<\/em><br \/>\nEt bien, bon r\u00e9tablissement John !<br \/>\nMerci !<\/p>\n<p><em>Hey John!
