Le printemps est arriv\u00e9\u00a0<\/strong>(Spring is here) and the longer days, changing seasons, and changing clocks<\/a> bring up thoughts of le grand nettoyage de printemps et les fleurs \u00e9panouies<\/strong> (spring cleaning and blooming flowers). The end of the cold<\/a> months means that people will start opening up their houses and letting in l’air frais<\/strong> (fresh air).<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t realize I had a big hole in my vocabulaire fran\u00e7ais<\/strong><\/a> until I was chez mon ami<\/strong> (at my friend\u2019s place) and we were going to take a picture but le soleil<\/strong> (the sun) was too strong. I had an interesting conversation with mon ami:
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Je peux fermer les stores.<\/strong>
\nLes stores\u00a0?<\/strong>
\nOui les stores. Pour le soleil.<\/strong>
\nEt comment \u00e7a s\u2019\u00e9crit\u00a0?<\/strong>
\nLes stores. S-T-O-R-E-S.<\/strong>
\nAh d\u2019accord ! Je ne connaissais<\/a> pas le mot pour les stores !<\/strong><\/p>\n

I can close the blinds.
\nThe shutters?
\nYes the shutters. For the sun.
\nAnd how do you spell it?
\nThe blinds. B-L-I-N-D-S.
\nAh okay! I didn\u2019t know the word for shutters!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I then realized that je ne connaissais pas<\/strong><\/a> many of the word for shutters<\/em>, curtains<\/em>, and other window related vocabulary. I started asking mon ami<\/strong> how to say all kinds of words, but left still confused about how to say some things.<\/p>\n

Une fois \u00e0 la maison<\/a><\/strong> (once I was home), I looked up the words I could remember,\u00a0 making sure I would never have trouble saying:<\/p>\n

Est-ce que tu peux fermer les stores ?<\/strong>
\nCan you close the blinds?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

One thing is for sure, I\u2019ll be happy to profiter de<\/strong> (enjoy) the warmer season, possibly even enjoying une bi\u00e8re<\/a> sur la terrasse<\/strong> (a beer outside)!<\/p>\n
