It can be hard to find French outside the classroom if you don’t live dans un pays francophone<\/a><\/strong> (in a French speaking country). That’s why I started the Real French Series<\/a> as a way to bring French speakers closer to all of you.<\/p>\n

This time I interviewed un ami qui s’appelle<\/strong> (a friend whose name is) Arnaud Fi\u00e8vre<\/em>. I met Arnaud through Jean Guyomarc’h<\/a> and Arnaud has helped me get involved in the local music scene. He spends his days finding des salles<\/strong> (venues) and setting up concerts for many of the local musicians. Le collectif de musiciens<\/strong> (the collective) that he works for, Capsul Collectif<\/a><\/em>, focuses on improvised and free jazz music, but is not afriad of le jazz manouche<\/a> either.<\/p>\n

I asked Arnaud a few questions about sa famille et son travail<\/strong> (his family and his work), and then about un mot<\/strong> (a word) that may be new to you: pied-noir<\/em> <\/strong>(literally “black foot”). He explains in la vid\u00e9o<\/strong> what le mot<\/strong> means and touches on its complicated history.<\/p>\n

Before the end of l’interview<\/strong> I asked Arnaud to r\u00e9citer un po\u00e8me<\/strong> (recite a poem). Heureusement<\/strong> (luckily), he had a poem by le po\u00e8te fran\u00e7ais<\/strong> Saint-John Perse<\/a><\/em> ready! However, he didn’t expect me to ask him to r\u00e9citer un po\u00e8me<\/strong> and comments on how he feels like he’s \u00e0 l’\u00e9cole<\/strong><\/a> (at school) with the pressure of la cam\u00e9ra<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
