{"id":23334,"date":"2016-05-09T22:20:34","date_gmt":"2016-05-09T20:20:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/?p=23334"},"modified":"2018-02-28T15:08:04","modified_gmt":"2018-02-28T14:08:04","slug":"le-petit-journal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/le-petit-journal\/","title":{"rendered":"Le Petit Journal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A big announcement in French television occurred today when Yann Barth\u00e8s, the host of <em>Le Petit Journal<\/em>, announced that he would be leaving the show after five years as its host.\u00a0<em>Le Petit Journal<\/em> is often compared to\u00a0<em>The Daily Show<\/em> in America, and Barth\u00e8s was often compared to former Daily Show host Jon Stewart.<\/p>\n<p>Although\u00a0Barth\u00e8s hosted the full-length <em>Le Petit Journal<\/em>\u00a0for five years, he is the brainchild of the satirical news show.\u00a0<em>Le Petit Journal<\/em> began as a smaller segment in the show\u00a0<em>Le Grand Journal<\/em> in 2004 and became so popular that it was developed into a full-length show in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<em>Le Monde,\u00a0<\/em>Barth\u00e8s stated:<em>&#8220;<em>Je ne pr\u00e9senterai plus \u201cLe Petit Journal\u201d la saison prochaine. Je souhaite \u00e9crire avec les \u00e9quipes de Bangumi<\/em> [la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de production de l\u2019\u00e9mission]<em> une nouvelle histoire et vivre de nouvelles aventures.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I will no longer present Le Petit Journal next season. I hope to write a new story\u00a0and live new adventures with the Bangumi team [the show&#8217;s production company].&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Le Petit Journal\u00a0<\/em>even entered into American news occasionally with its satirical segments on American politics and media. The\u00a0<em>New York Times\u00a0<\/em>wrote about one such episode in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/01\/20\/world\/europe\/fox-news-becomes-unwilling-star-of-french-tv-show.html?_r=0\">this<\/a> article. Another famous example occurred during the 2008 presidential election, when\u00a0<em>Le Petit Journal<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em>staffers during a live broadcast of <em>ABC News<\/em> in Times Square held up banners with the word &#8220;Cassoulet&#8221; written on them. The banners were clearly visible on TV and, afterwards, millions of Americans searched the internet to find out what exactly cassoulet is&#8211;and an English Wikipedia page for &#8220;Cassoulet&#8221; was created. (It&#8217;s a delicious, slow-cooked casserole.)
