You may know how to conjugate the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/delving-into-the-french-subjunctive\/\">subjunctive<\/a>, but can still have trouble asking someone to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/its-prime-time-open-windows-in-french\/\"><strong>fermer les stores<\/strong><\/a> (close the blinds).<\/p>\n<p>I always have to learn new words for everyday things, like when I needed to buy <strong>un <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/how-to-find-a-hardware-store-in-french\/\">tournevis<\/a> ou une <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/22685-2\/\">pile<\/a><\/strong> (a screwdriver or a battery).<\/p>\n<p>After I moved to France I needed to <strong>laver mes v\u00eatements<\/strong> (wash my clothes), which meant buying laundry detergent. <strong>Une fois au supermarch\u00e9<\/strong> (once I was at the supermarket) I realized I didn&#8217;t recognize <strong>les produits de nettoyage<\/strong> (the cleaning products) and I didn&#8217;t know how to talk about <strong>le linge<\/strong> (laundry)!<\/p>\n<p>Walking down <strong>les all\u00e9es<\/strong> (the aisles) I spent a few minutes trying to read the names of\u00a0<strong>les produits de nettoyage<\/strong>. Not sure what I was looking at, I picked one hoping for the best.<\/p>\n<p>I went home and gathered <strong>le linge sale<\/strong> (the dirty laundry) then went to <strong>la laverie au coin de la rue<\/strong> (the laundromat around the corner).<\/p>\n<p>After <strong>j&#8217;ai fait la lessive<\/strong> (I did laundry) it became clear that <strong>je me suis <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/sorry-for-the-time\/\">tromp\u00e9<\/a><\/strong> (I had made a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/more-mistakes-thinking-in-english\/\">mistake<\/a>). I had bought <strong>de l&#8217;assouplissant<\/strong> (fabric softener) instead of <strong>de la lessive<\/strong> (detergent)!<\/p>\n<p>I had to go back to <strong>le supermarch\u00e9<\/strong> and buy <strong>de la lessive<\/strong>!
