I received un mail<\/strong><\/a> (an email) the other day with a simple message:<\/p>\n

La prochaine r\u00e9union sera chez moi \u00e0 17h. Est-ce que vous \u00eates disponible ?<\/strong>
\nThe next meeting will be at my place at 5 o\u2019clock. Are you available?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

After making sure that 17h is 5 PM and not 7 PM<\/a>, I wrote back saying I was disponible<\/strong> and marked it down in mon agenda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Remembering all the vocabulary for la gestion du temps<\/strong> (time management) can be just as hard as managing your time!<\/p>\n

There are many words for keeping track of time and malheureusement<\/strong> (unfortunately), it\u2019s easy to confuse them! It can be hard trying to remember the difference between un jour<\/strong> and une journ\u00e9e<\/strong>. Both of them mean a day<\/em><\/a>! Everything can get even more confusing when you add in une ann\u00e9e bissextile<\/a><\/strong> or the many ways to say schedule<\/em>.<\/p>\n

I poorly managed my both my French and my time once by thinking in English<\/a>. J’\u00e9tais \u00e0 la fac<\/strong> (I was on campus) looking at les flyers<\/strong> hung up on the walls and on les panneaux d\u2019affichage<\/strong> (the bulletin boards). I saw something that looked like a schedule, only it had a name that I had never seen before: Emploi du temps<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

I knew emploi<\/strong> <\/em>meant employment<\/em> so I figured it was about les emplois \u00e9tudiants<\/strong> (student jobs).<\/p>\n

I asked le secr\u00e9tariat<\/strong> (the administration office) about les emplois \u00e9tudiants<\/strong> that I had seen. They tried to understand what I was talking about, but ended up just giving me another flyer<\/strong> and letting me know there are des emplois \u00e0 temps partiel<\/strong> (some part time jobs) for students around town.<\/p>\n

I left confused thinking il n’y avait pas d’emploi<\/strong> (there wasn’t a job) available for me.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t until le lendemain<\/strong> (the next day) that I realized the mistake I’d made. Mon professeur<\/strong> asked us how much work we had in our other classes<\/a>. He used the word emploi du temps<\/strong> and my classmate took out our class schedule to show him our emploi du temps charg\u00e9<\/strong> (busy schedule).<\/p>\n

Emploi du temps<\/strong> is another word for schedule<\/em>!<\/p>\n
