Today&#8217;s song is performing pretty well on the NRJ charts, so if you&#8217;re in France, you&#8217;ve probably heard it.<\/p>\n<p>Ma\u00eetre Gims, a Congo-born French rapper and singer, came on the scene in 2002 with the hip-hop group Sexion d&#8217;Assaut. While the group hasn&#8217;t been active since 2013, Ma\u00eetre Gims has managed to find success in a solo career. Kinda like Justin Timberlake and NSYNC, but with a different genre of music.<\/p>\n<p>Ma\u00eetre Gims was even nominated for <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/the-best-french-music-of-2015\/\"><strong>Chanson fran\u00e7aise de l\u2019ann\u00e9e <\/strong><\/a>(French song of the year) last year for his song <strong>Est-ce que tu m&#8217;aimes<\/strong> (Do You Love Me?). This year, he released <strong>Ma beaut\u00e9<\/strong> (My Beauty), which, with its exaggerated pronunciations of the N sound and repetitions, is so incredibly catchy. I&#8217;m not much of a dancer myself, but I&#8217;d be lying if I said this song didn&#8217;t make me move a bit.<\/p>\n<p>The lyrics aren&#8217;t deep by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, the theme is nothing new, either: guy screws up, realizes his mistake, asks his girlfriend to come back, and promises to change. Despite that, it&#8217;s a nice little piece.<\/p>\n<p>A note about the lyrics: I&#8217;ve written the words out correctly, but you&#8217;ll find in spoken (and in this case, sung) French, some sounds are dropped. <strong>Tu es<\/strong> is often pronounced as <strong>t&#8217;es<\/strong>. In this song, <strong>je ne t&#8217;ai pas donn\u00e9 <\/strong>becomes<strong> je n&#8217;t&#8217;ai pas donn\u00e9<\/strong>.<strong> Je l&#8217;ai<\/strong> \u00a0becomes <strong>j&#8217;l&#8217;ai m\u00e9rit\u00e9<\/strong>.
