Licensed under CC BY-ND 2.0.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Just a few weeks ago I was enjoying <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/summer-games-done-quick-french-restream\/\">SGDQ<\/a>, but this past week <strong>la canicule<\/strong> is finally here. The uncomfortably hot time <strong>en \u00e9t\u00e9<\/strong> (in Summer) when France turns into an oven. Dealing with <strong>la chaleur<\/strong> (the heat) <strong>en \u00e9t\u00e9<\/strong> is a common problem in France and a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-youtube-stars-norman-thavaud\/\"><strong>youtubeur fran\u00e7ais<\/strong><\/a> (French youtuber), <em>Cyprien<\/em>, even made a fun video about the struggles of surviving <strong>la canicule<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RSedscbooug?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen title=\"Embedded video\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Click on <strong>l&#8217;ic\u00f4ne en forme de roue dent\u00e9e<\/strong> (the gear icon) to turn off the 3D effect and turn on subtitles.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Hier<\/strong> (yesterday), I had my own struggle with <strong>la canicule<\/strong>. I woke up to <strong>la chaleur extr\u00eame <\/strong>(the extreme heat) and before I could make <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/a-cup-of-coffee-un-cafe-sil-vous-plait\/\"><strong>du caf\u00e9<\/strong><\/a> (some coffee), I needed to take a shower. Washing off <strong>la transpiration<\/strong> (the sweat) made the start of my day better, but I needed to find a better way to <strong>se rafra\u00eechir<\/strong> (cool off).<\/p>\n<p><strong>La climatisation<\/strong> isn\u2019t very common in France. <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/bernard-adamus-y-fait-chaud\/\"><strong>Il fait chaud<\/strong><\/a> (it\u2019s hot) for only a few days or weeks of the year. Unless you have <strong>un ventilateur chez vous<\/strong> (a fan at home), all you can do is <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/its-prime-time-open-windows-in-french\/\"><strong>ouvrir les fen\u00eatres<\/strong><\/a> (open the windows) and hope <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/louise-attaque-jtemmene-au-vent\/\"><strong>le vent<\/strong><\/a> (the wind) finds its way in.<\/p>\n<p>I put off buying <strong>un ventilateur<\/strong> because <strong>la chaleur<\/strong> hadn&#8217;t been that bad this year, but <strong>hier<\/strong> was different. As soon as I was done with <strong>le petit d\u00e9jeuner<\/strong> (breakfast), I went to the nearest <strong>arr\u00eat de bus<\/strong> (bus stop) and made my way to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-vocabulary-shopping-at-the-supermarket\/\"><strong>une grande surface<\/strong><\/a> (a supermarket, a big-box store).<\/p>\n<p>Once I was in the store, I was welcomed by <strong>la climatisation<\/strong> of the building and I was happy to <strong>en profiter<\/strong> (enjoy it) for a moment before looking for <strong>mon nouveau ventilateur<\/strong> (my new fan).
