Licensed under CC BY 2.0.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>While writing <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/whats-the-problem-writing-a-thesis-in-french\/\"><strong>mon m\u00e9moire<\/strong><\/a>, I had to deal with <strong>l\u2019angoisse de la page blanche<\/strong> all the time. I would write as long as I could, and then reach a moment where I felt like I couldn\u2019t write anymore.<\/p>\n<p>One time while dealing with <strong>cette angoisse<\/strong> (this anxiety), I needed to look up <strong>une expression<\/strong> (an expression, an idiom) I wanted to use in <strong>mon m\u00e9more<\/strong> :<em> lost in translation<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>To my surprise, there is no equivalent in French!<\/p>\n<p>I found few suggestions, <strong>intraduisible<\/strong> and <strong>perdu \u00e0 la traduction<\/strong>, but there doesn&#8217;t seem to be <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/the-dog-days-are-over-french-expressions-with-chien\/\"><strong>une expression fran\u00e7aise<\/strong><\/a> (an French expression\/idiom) that directly matches it. <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/reader-request-french-expressions-using-tomber\/\"><strong>L&#8217;expression<\/strong><\/a> was <em>lost in translation<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I thoguht to look up <strong>la traduction<\/strong> of the 2003 movie, <em>Lost in Translation<\/em>, to see how <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/titres-francais-de-films-celebres-french-titles-of-famous-movies\/\"><strong>le film<\/strong><\/a> (the movie) was translated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>En France<\/strong>, the title is the same as in English: <em>Lost in Translation<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/which-stateprovince-are-you-from-expression-location-in-french\/\">Au<\/a> Qu\u00e9bec<\/strong>, the title is translated, and provides an idea for how to say it: <em>Traduction infind\u00e8le<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The most important thing to take away was how <strong>une traduction litt\u00e9rale <\/strong>(a direct translation) <strong>ne sonne pas naturelle<\/strong> (doesn\u2019t sound natural) to French speakers.
