During mon dernier semestre<\/strong> (my last semester) at school I had to split my time between mon m\u00e9moire<\/a> et <\/strong>mon stage<\/strong> (my thesis and my internship), but at least in France you’re guaranteed to earn some money during le stage<\/strong>. There’s a law requiring un salaire minimum<\/strong> (a minimum wage) for les stagiaires<\/strong> (interns)!<\/p>\n

Faire un stage<\/strong> (doing an internship) is an essential part of many degrees. It’s a way to apply your studies in the real world, while still having time to learn. While there is un st\u00e9r\u00e9otype<\/strong> of les stagiaires<\/strong> doing nothing but cleaning and preparing du caf\u00e9<\/strong><\/a>, les stages<\/strong> are often very useful for getting practical experience in a field.<\/p>\n

In France, you can sometimes choose between un dipl\u00f4me professionnel<\/strong> (a professional degree) and un dipl\u00f4me recherche<\/strong> (a research degree). One of the differences being un dipl\u00f4me professionnel<\/strong> includes un stage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I chose un dipl\u00f4me professionnel<\/strong>, so I needed to find un stage <\/strong>in order to finish mon dipl\u00f4me<\/strong>. Unfortunately, finding un stage <\/strong>can be just as hard as finding a job<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After looking over des offres de stage<\/strong> (some internship opportunities), I chose one with une entreprise am\u00e9ricaine<\/strong> (an American company). It was an interesting opportunity, but mon patron<\/strong> (my boss) was not very familiar with France or and could not speak French.<\/p>\n

I explained everything that mon universit\u00e9 fran\u00e7aise<\/strong> (my French university) needed, but between figuring out l\u2019assurance<\/strong><\/a> and making sure I had all the right documents for la convention de stage<\/strong> (internship contract), the amount of paperwork needed to faire un stage en<\/a> France<\/strong> can be intimidating.<\/p>\n

En fin de compte<\/strong> (in the end), everything worked out and I passed<\/a>!<\/p>\n

I also ended up learning a bit more about how le syst\u00e8me d’\u00e9ducation fran\u00e7ais<\/strong><\/a> can be confusing for une entreprise am\u00e9ricaine!
