It seems like just yesterday I was waking up to la canicule<\/strong><\/a>, but with the changing seasons and clocks falling back<\/a>, it\u2019s really starting to get cold. I already have to turn on le chauffage<\/strong> (the heater, the heating) and find mes v\u00eatements d\u2019hiver<\/strong> (my winter clothes)!<\/p>\n

After spending months next to le ventilateur<\/strong> (the fan) and wishing mon appartement<\/strong> (my apartment) had la climatisation<\/strong> (air conditioning), I was happy that France was cooling down. Cependant<\/strong> (however), after putting off buying un ventilateur<\/strong><\/a> for so long I didn\u2019t want to put it away until I had no choice.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

As the temperature drops, I have turned off le ventilateur<\/strong> and closed les fen\u00eatres<\/strong> (the windows), but it has quickly become a struggle to stay warm. I’ve had to turn on le chauffage<\/strong>, prepare du caf\u00e9<\/a> chaud<\/strong> (some hot coffee), and me couvrir<\/strong> (bundle up).<\/p>\n

I\u2019m from la Floride<\/strong><\/a> (Florida) and preparing for l\u2019hiver<\/strong> (Winter) and le temps<\/a> froid<\/strong> (cold weather) is something I\u2019m not used to doing. I’ve learned how to survive and bought des v\u00eatements d’hiver <\/strong>(some winter clothes), but there are still many things about le froid<\/strong> that surprise me.<\/p>\n

When il faisait trop froid<\/strong> (it was too cold) and I turned on le chauffage<\/strong>, I noticed une odeur bizarre<\/strong> (a strange smell). Mon voisin<\/strong> (my neighbor) noticed l\u2019odeur<\/strong> as well and came over to see if I was okay.<\/p>\n

\u00c7a va ? Il y a une odeur bizarre qui vient de ton appartement.<\/strong>
\nOuais, je ne sais pas d\u2019o\u00f9 \u00e7a vient.<\/strong>
\nEst-ce que tu as allum\u00e9 le chauffage ?<\/strong>
\nOui\u2026. Il fait froid ces derniers jours.<\/strong>
\nAhh ! Tu dois ouvrir les fen\u00eatres !<\/strong><\/p>\n

Is everything alright? There\u2019s a strange smell coming from your apartment.
\nYeah, I don\u2019t know where it\u2019s coming from.
\nDid you turn on the heater?
\nYes\u2026 It\u2019s cold these days.
\nAhh! You have to open the windows<\/a>!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

La Floride<\/strong> never taught me how to deal with l\u2019hiver<\/strong> and I wasn\u2019t aware of l\u2019odeur bizarre<\/strong> that comes with turning on the heat for the first time!<\/p>\n

Since it was already froid<\/strong>, I had to suffer for a little while while l\u2019odeur<\/strong> left l\u2019appartement<\/strong>. I took it as a sign that I needed to prepare for l’hiver<\/strong> and found all mes v\u00eatements d\u2019hiver<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

L\u2019hiver<\/strong> is only just starting and I’ll have to get used to le froid<\/strong>. I’m looking forward to les march\u00e9s de No\u00ebl<\/strong><\/a>, but I hope I don’t catch a cold<\/a>!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\"\"
