It\u2019s a very mundane affair.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cependant<\/strong> (however), the head of the department for my degree is <strong>une Am\u00e9ricaine<\/strong>, and she likes to give <strong>les \u00e9tudiants<\/strong> a special sendoff for completing the degree, including <strong>une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de remise des dipl\u00f4mes<\/strong> (a graduation ceremony).<\/p>\n<p>I had the good luck of getting to wear <strong>un costume universitaire<\/strong> (a cap and gown) and walk across a stage thanks to <strong>la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de remise des dipl\u00f4mes<\/strong>! <strong>Mon professeur<\/strong> (my professor) handed me <strong>le vrai dipl\u00f4me<\/strong> (the real diploma) and we took a photo together after I signed for it. I then waited with <strong>mes camarades de classe<\/strong> (my classmates) while the rest of my class was called on to the stage.<\/p>\n<p>It was a fun way to end <strong>mes \u00e9tudes<\/strong> (my studies) here in France and an experience I&#8217;ll remember for the rest of my life.<\/p>\n<p>As for <strong>le dipl\u00f4me lui-m\u00eame<\/strong> (the degree itself), <strong>les dipl\u00f4mes<\/strong> and <strong>les notes<\/strong> (grades, marks) have everything you would expect: the official title of <strong>le master<\/strong> and the official signatures and seals of<strong> l&#8217;universit\u00e9<\/strong>. There is also a system similar to graduating <em>with honors<\/em> or <em>cum laude<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Avec mention, avec mention assez bien<\/strong> &#8211; Cum laude<br \/>\n<strong>Avec mention bien<\/strong> &#8211; Magna cum laude<br \/>\n<strong>Avec mention tr\u00e8s bien<\/strong> &#8211; Summa cum laude<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It may be the end of my adventures in French academia, and while I still don\u2019t understand all the intricacies of why classes have to be separated into <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/adventures-in-french-education-cm-and-td\/\"><strong>les CMs et les TDs<\/strong><\/a>, I now have a deep appreciation for their <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/22614-2\/\">education system<\/a> and all it has taught me.<\/p>\n<p>As for <strong>mes notes finales<\/strong> (my final grades), I may not have received <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/studying-in-france-a-perfect-score\/\"><strong>un vingt sur vingt<\/strong><\/a>, but I did graduate <strong>avec mention bien<\/strong>!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<img width=\"267\" height=\"350\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/12\/DSC_0491-267x350.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/12\/DSC_0491-267x350.jpg 267w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/12\/DSC_0491-768x1009.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/12\/DSC_0491-780x1024.jpg 780w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 267px) 100vw, 267px\" \/><p>After many months of hard work on mon m\u00e9moire and years of studying for mon master, I finally received mon dipl\u00f4me (my diploma) here in France!
