Every time I leave <strong>mon appartement<\/strong> (my apartment) I can hear <strong>les chants de No\u00ebl<\/strong> (Christmas carols) as I make my way to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/winter-traditions-marche-de-noel\/\"><strong>le march\u00e9 de No\u00ebl<\/strong><\/a> to drink <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/warm-your-soul-with-this-mulled-wine-recipe\/\"><strong>du vin chaud<\/strong><\/a>. It&#8217;s easy to hum along, but not knowing any of <strong>les paroles<\/strong> (the lyrics) can be frustrating.<\/p>\n<p><strong>L\u2019autre jour<\/strong> (the other day), I heard a very familiar song that I could not <strong>chanter<\/strong> (sing): <em><strong>Au Royaume du Bonhomme Hiver<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I couldn\u2019t <strong>chanter<\/strong> because I only know <strong>la chanson<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/more-mistakes-thinking-in-english\/\">in English<\/a>: <em>Walking in a Winter Wonderland<\/em>! After humming along and doing my best to listen to <strong>les paroles<\/strong>, I knew I would have to learn <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/22978-2\/\"><strong>la chanson fran\u00e7aise<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Looking up <strong>les paroles<\/strong> taught me <strong>du nouveau vocabulaire<\/strong> (some new vocabulary) like <strong>le tra\u00eeneau et le foulard<\/strong> (the sleigh and the scarf). It also taught me that <strong>la chanson<\/strong> is very different in french.
