My personal favorite is <em><strong>Un chant de No\u00ebl<\/strong> (A Christmas Carol)<\/em> by Charles Dickens. While it\u2019s preferable to watch a movie or a TV show <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/editors-note-understanding-acronyms-and-abbreviations\/\">en VOST<\/a><\/strong>, being familiar with the characters and the story in your first language can help you stay engaged in another language.<\/p>\n<p>The same idea works with <strong>les livres<\/strong> (books)! If you have a favorite book in English, you can usually find it <strong>en version fran\u00e7aise<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/?p=25446\"><strong>Dans l&#8217;esprit de No\u00ebl<\/strong><\/a> (in the Christmas spirit), one such example is <em><strong>Un chant de No\u00ebl<\/strong><\/em>, a story that has been retold many times and in many different styles. My first memory of the story is <strong>la version de Disney<\/strong> (the Disney version) where <strong>Balthazar Picsou<\/strong> (Scrooge McDuck) plays the role of Ebenezer Scrooge and <strong>Dingo<\/strong> (Goofy) is <strong>le fant\u00f4me de Jacob Marley<\/strong> (the ghost of Jacob Marley).<\/p>\n<p>The novella is most commonly known as <em><strong>Un chant de No\u00ebl<\/strong> <\/em>in French, but it was also published under the names of <em><strong>Cantique de No\u00ebl<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>Chanson de No\u00ebl<\/strong><\/em>, and <em><strong>Conte de No\u00ebl<\/strong><\/em>.
