Licnesed under CC BY 2.0.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Je me suis r\u00e9veille \u00e0 4 heurs du matin<\/strong> (I woke up at 4 in the morning) the morning of <strong>le vol<\/strong>. I originally wanted to take <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/planes-trains-and-carpooling-in-france\/\"><strong>les transports en commun<\/strong><\/a> (public transportation), but <strong>les roues de ma valise<\/strong> (my suitcase\u2019s wheels) had broken the day before and I didn\u2019t want to have to lug <strong>ma valise<\/strong> all around Paris.<\/p>\n<p>I ended up taking an Uber, but there was an unusual amount of traffic. It turned out that there was <strong>une gr\u00e8ve<\/strong> (a strike) taking place slowing down traffic everywhere. Over an hour later than I expected, I arrived at<strong> l\u2019a\u00e9roport<\/strong> worried I had missed <strong>le vol<\/strong>. I quickly walked up to <strong>le comptoir<\/strong> (the counter) and started asking about <strong>le vol<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>A: Excusez-moi, Monsieur, est que je peux toujours enregistrer mes bagages ?<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>B: Donnez-moi votre billet, s\u2019il vous pla\u00eet\u2026 Ah, en fait votre vol est retard\u00e9.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>A: Ah\u2026 d\u2019accord\u2026 alors quand est-ce qu\u2019il va partir\u00a0?<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>B: <\/strong><strong>Nous ne savons pas encore.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>A: <\/strong><strong>Et j\u2019ai une correspondance \u00e0 Lisbonne&#8230;<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>B: <\/strong><strong>Attendez un moment, s\u2019il vous pla\u00eet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A: Excuse me, sir, can I still check in\u00a0?<br \/>\nB: Give me your ticket please\u2026 Ah, actually your flight is delayed.<br \/>\nA: Ah\u2026 alright\u2026 then when is it going to leave?<br \/>\nB: We don\u2019t know yet.<br \/>\nA: And I have a connection in Lisbon&#8230;<br \/>\nB: Please wait a moment.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The employee left to ask someone else about <strong>la correspondence<\/strong>, but I could tell I was looking at <strong>une longue escale<\/strong> (a long layover). While waiting I started feeling <strong>nerveux<\/strong> (nervous). I couldn&#8217;t help but think to myself:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Mais ma famille m\u2019attende !<\/strong><br \/>\nBut my family is waiting for me!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The employee came back with <strong>la mauvaise nouvelle<\/strong> (the bad news):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>B: Malheureusement vous allez manqu\u00e9 votre vol \u00e0 Lisbonne, mais vous aurez une chambre dans un h\u00f4tel avec des repas.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>A: <\/strong><strong>D\u2019accord\u2026<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>B: <\/strong><strong>Nous sommes d\u00e9sol\u00e9s de tout d\u00e9rangement.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>A: <\/strong><strong>Donc il y a des navettes au h\u00f4tel ?<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>B: <\/strong><strong>Il y aura soit des navettes soit la compagnie a\u00e9rienne vous payera un taxi. En tout cas la compagnie a\u00e9rienne s&#8217;occupera du transport entre l&#8217;a\u00e9roport et l&#8217;h\u00f4tel.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>A: <\/strong><strong>D\u2019accord, merci pour votre aide.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>B: <\/strong><strong>De rien. Encore une fois nous somme d\u00e9sole de la g\u00eane que ceci vous a caus\u00e9.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>B: Unfortunately you are going to miss your flight in Lisbon, but you will have a room in a hotel with meals and transportation to and from the airport.<br \/>\nA: Alright\u2026<br \/>\nB: We are sorry for any inconvenience.<br \/>\nA: So there are shuttles to the hotel?<br \/>\nB: There will either be shuttles or the airline will pay for a taxi. In any case the airline will take care of the transportation to and from the airport.<br \/>\nA: Alright, thank you for your help.<br \/>\nB: You\u2019re welcome. Once more we are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Several hours later and <strong>l\u2019avion a d\u00e9coll\u00e9<\/strong> (the plane took off). Once in <strong>Lisbonne<\/strong>, an employee gave me and all the other stranded <strong>passagers<\/strong> (passengers) waivers for the hotel, meals, and taxi. I had a nice night of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/compter-les-petits-moutons-blancs-pour-sendormir-counting-little-white-sheep-to-fall-asleep\/\">sleep<\/a> after all that stress and, <strong>heureusement<\/strong> (luckily), was not haunted by <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/a-christmas-carol-en-version-francaise\/\"><strong>trois esprits<\/strong><\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>A day later than expected, feeling very tired from <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/leaving-imprints-how-to-print-in-french\/\"><strong>la fatigue \u00e0 cause du d\u00e9calage horaire<\/strong><\/a> (the jetlag) after <strong>le vol long-courrier<\/strong> (the long-haul flight), I was finally home to celebrate <strong>No\u00ebl et <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/bonne-annee-welcome-2017-in-french\/\">la Saint-Sylvestre<\/a><\/strong> (Christmas and New Year&#8217;s) with my family!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<img width=\"350\" height=\"263\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/01\/822938133_d2a1a19297_z-350x263.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/01\/822938133_d2a1a19297_z-350x263.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/01\/822938133_d2a1a19297_z.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><p>I had un long vol (a long flight) back to les \u00c9tats-Unis a month ago to make it home for the holidays.
