Licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I haven\u2019t had the luxury of having <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/baby-its-cold-outside-turning-on-the-heat-in-france\/\">an apartment<\/a> with <strong>un lave-vaisselle <\/strong>(a dishwasher) since I moved to France. Instead I rely on <strong>du liquide vaisselle<\/strong> (dish soap) and <strong>des \u00e9ponges<\/strong> (sponges). That means looking at many different products that even if I know <strong>le mot fran\u00e7ais<\/strong> (the French word), I often don&#8217;t know <strong>la marque<\/strong> (the brand)!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cependant<\/strong> (however), before struggling to realize what the difference between French soap brands are, I had to also learn the vocabulary. The difference between<strong> la lessive, le liquide vaisselle et le savon<\/strong> (detergent, dish soap, and hand soap) is very important!<\/p>\n<p>Luckily I knew how to say <em><strong>faire la vaisselle<\/strong><\/em> (wash dishes) so when I was confusingly staring at the different bottles at<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/going-to-lepicerie-groceries-in-french\/\"><strong> l&#8217;\u00e9picerie<\/strong><\/a>, I at least knew how to say what I was looking for.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Excusez-moi monsieur, vous cherchez quelque chose ?<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Oui\u2026. J\u2019ai besoin du savon pour faire la vaisselle.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Vous voulez dire du liquide vaisselle ?<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Je crois\u2026 oui\u2026<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Suivez-moi, monsieur, c\u2019est juste ici.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> D\u2019accord.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Excuse me, sir, are you looking for something\u00a0?<br \/>\nYes\u2026 I need soap for washing dishes.<br \/>\nDo you mean dish washing soap?<br \/>\nI believe so\u2026 yes\u2026<br \/>\nFollow me sir, it\u2019s right over here.<br \/>\nAlright.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I will admit I was not <strong>s\u00fbr \u00e0 cent pour cent <\/strong>(one hundred percent sure) that <strong>le liquide vaisselle<\/strong> was the right word.
