After a few more longues layovers<\/em><\/a> I\u2019ve settled into mon nouvel appartement<\/strong> (my new apartment). The whole process of moving was stressful, but not nearly as much as ma soutenance<\/strong><\/a> (my thesis defense).<\/p>\n

After the holiday cheer died down and the sounds of Bonjour No\u00ebl<\/em> <\/strong><\/a>were drowned out by the cries of \u201cBon Nouvel An !<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u201d, I had to start thinking about le d\u00e9m\u00e9nagement<\/strong> (moving) during the cold months of winter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

D\u00e9m\u00e9nager <\/strong>(moving) always takes a long time and involves a lot of preparation. The process unfortunately doesn’t end once everything is moved. Settling in and unpacking can often take just as long as packing in the first place.<\/p>\n

Pr\u00e9parer ses affaires<\/h3>\n

La premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape<\/strong> (the first step) is to pr\u00e9parer ses affaires<\/strong> (pack up your things). I wanted to make sure I got back mon d\u00e9p\u00f4t de garantie<\/strong> (my security deposit) so I had to check chaque recoin<\/strong> (every nook and cranny) of mon ancien appartement<\/strong> (my old apartment) before leaving.<\/p>\n

Looking over all mes affaires<\/strong> while cleaning up l’appartement<\/strong>, I had to either mettre dans un carton<\/strong> (put in a box) or jeter dans la poubelle<\/strong> (throw into the trashcan) everything I had!<\/p>\n

Luckily I\u2019m un pro de Tetris<\/strong> (a pro at Tetris) so fitting everything I wanted into les cartons<\/strong> (the boxes) was relatively easy.<\/p>\n

Le D\u00e9m\u00e9nagement<\/h3>\n

La prochaine \u00e9tape<\/strong> (the next step) was a bit more difficult. Once les cartons<\/strong> were ready, I had to figure out la logistique<\/strong> du d\u00e9m\u00e9nagement<\/strong> (the logistics of moving).<\/p>\n

I carried some of les cartons<\/strong> by myself, but the rest I had to send with la poste<\/strong><\/a>. Figuring out if I had the right assurance<\/strong><\/a> (insurance) for what I was sending was as hard as getting all of les cartons<\/strong> au bureau de poste<\/strong> (the boxes to the post office).<\/p>\n

What followed was a stressful day of moving. I took all les cartons<\/strong> that I could and hoped the rest of mes affaires<\/strong> would arrive within a day or two.<\/p>\n

S’installer<\/h3>\n

La derni\u00e8re \u00e9tape<\/strong> du d\u00e9m\u00e9nagement<\/strong> (the last step of moving) is always the hardest and starts with having to d\u00e9baller les cartons<\/strong> (unpack the boxes). Walking into un nouvel appartement<\/strong> filled with des cartons<\/strong> when all you want to do is dormir<\/strong><\/a> (sleep) can be un vrai casse t\u00eate<\/strong><\/a> (a real headache).<\/p>\n

Cependant<\/strong> (however), this last step helps you really s’installer dans un nouveau logement<\/strong> (settle into a new place).<\/p>\n

There is still a lot that needs to get done, but now that the hard part is done I just need to figure out where everything should go!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\"\"
