I am not a big gamer, but parfois<\/strong> (sometimes) I like playing les jeux vid\u00e9o<\/strong> (video games) in between having to study<\/a> and work<\/a>. Recently un jeu<\/strong> (a game) from my childhood, StarCraft<\/em>, was released for free. L’entreprise<\/strong><\/a> (the company) behind the game, Blizzard<\/em>, is getting ready for a new HD release of le jeu<\/strong> this summer. Naturally, I had to have fun with un jeu<\/strong> from my childhood and practice French at the same time!<\/p>\n

Les jeux vid\u00e9o<\/strong> are a fun way to not only pass the time, but also pratiquer une langue<\/strong><\/a> (practice a language). Story-driven games like Final Fantasy<\/em> are an immersive experience where you have to spend hours reading or listening as you make your way through l’histoire <\/strong>(the story).<\/p>\n

You woldn\u2019t think an action-based game would provide the same level of immersion, but by changing the language of le jeu<\/strong>, you can keep learning even if you\u2019re not getting sucked into une histoire<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Now, StarCraft<\/em> has une histoire <\/strong>that you can spend days playing, but most of my memories of le jeu<\/strong> are from playing it en ligne<\/strong><\/a> with my friends. I was never very good<\/a> at StarCraft<\/em>, but I played it so much I can easily remember the names of all the units and characters.<\/p>\n

Ce matin<\/strong> (this morning) when I went to installer<\/strong> StarCraft<\/em> pour la premi\u00e8re fois en plus de 10<\/a> ans<\/strong> (for the first time in over a decade), I was greeted with a language select screen. Feeling a bit guilty about putting off work to jouer \u00e0 un jeu<\/strong> (play a game), I decided to installer le jeu vid\u00e9o<\/a><\/strong> in French.<\/p>\n

I was surprised to see everything in French, but I quickly learned to enjoy it. It was le m\u00eame jeu<\/strong> (the same game) I remembered from my childhood but all the names, voices, and menus were different! While having to relearn some things can be frustrating, it\u2019s interesting to experience un jeu<\/strong> I spent hours playing as a kid en fran\u00e7ais<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

It might not be the most intense way to \u00e9tudier<\/strong> (study), but installing and playing StarCraft<\/em> en fran\u00e7ais<\/strong> has been a fun way to keep practicing when all I want to do is relax and have fun.<\/p>\n
