We\u2019re going to visit Paris then head to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/aout-en-bretagne\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>la Bretagne <\/strong>(<em>the Brittany region<\/em>)<\/a> where we will celebrate <strong>le mariage<\/strong> (<em>the wedding)<\/em> of my . . . well, it\u2019s complicated!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-27668\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/08\/pexels-photo-256737-350x232.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"232\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/08\/pexels-photo-256737-350x232.jpeg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/08\/pexels-photo-256737.jpeg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Un peu d\u2019histoire*<\/strong> \/ <em>A little background<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/musings-of-an-ex-expat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">When I was 16<\/a>, I lived in France of a year. I fell in love with the language, country, culture and my host family (<strong>ma famille d\u2019accueille)<\/strong>. In fact, a number of years later, I married my host sister . . . leading to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/nayez-pas-peur\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>mes deux belles-filles<\/strong><\/a> (my two step-daughters). While we were married, <strong>ma femme et moi, nous avons aussi eu notre fils William<\/strong> (<em>my wife and I also had our son William) <\/em>which means that Anne-Laure (<strong>et sa s\u0153ur Audrey<\/strong>\/<em>and her sister Audrey) <\/em>is also <strong>la soeur de mon fils<\/strong> (<em>my son\u2019s sister). <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Many years later, <strong>mon ex-femme<\/strong> (my ex-wife) and I are no longer married, but my two step-daughters \u2013 even though living back in France \u2013 are still very much part of my life and in just a over a week, <strong>la plus jeune des deux<\/strong> (<em>the younger\/yougest of the two)<\/em>, Anne-Laure, is getting married! So while Anne <strong>et sa s\u0153ur<\/strong> are very dear to me (and to the rest of my family . . . <strong>ma m\u00e8re, mon p\u00e8re, mes s\u0153urs, mon fr\u00e8re, et mes neveux et ni\u00e8ces!<\/strong> \/ <em>You can brush up on all your family vocabulary <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/la-famille-dabord-family-first\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/em>) knowing just what to call them has always been a little tricky.<\/p>\n<p>Next week I&#8217;ll share a post about some of the great things I&#8217;m planning to eat while I&#8217;m in France (there are all sorts of regional specialities in Bretagne that I&#8217;m looking forward to!) and when I return, I&#8217;ll lots of strories to share about <strong>mes dix jours en France<\/strong> (<em>my 10 days in France).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Speaking of family . . .<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ma tante Rose<\/strong> (<em>my aunt Rose) <\/em>recently shared some pictures with me that she got from <strong>son fr\u00e8re<\/strong> (<em>her brother) <\/em>of a <strong>d\u00eener en plein air <\/strong>(<em>out door diner)<\/em> in Roberval where he lives. This <strong>&#8220;gigantesque repas en plein air qui r\u00e9unit 10 000 convives autour d&#8217;une table de plus d&#8217;un kilom\u00e9tr\u00e9 de long&#8221;<\/strong> (<em>gigantic out door meal at which 10,000 guests gather around a table over one kilometer<\/em> <em>long<\/em>) takes place each year\u00a0 in conjunction with a 32km <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saguenaylacsaintjean.ca\/fr\/members\/141\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>nage en eau libre<\/strong><\/a> (<em>open water swim)<\/em> in the <strong>lac St-Jean<\/strong> (<em>Saint John Lake) <\/em><strong>le dernier samedi de juillet<\/strong> (<em>the last saturday in July)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-27663 size-thumbnail alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/08\/01-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-27664 size-thumbnail alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/08\/02-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-27665 size-thumbnail alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/08\/03-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p>* This has always been one of my favorite French words.
