La langue fran\u00e7aise<\/strong> can be heard around the world with la Francophonie<\/strong><\/a> extending to les quartes coins du monde<\/strong> (the four corners of the world). This allows for some unique music that comes from les pays francophones<\/strong> (French speaking countries) outside of France: Jacques Brel<\/em><\/a>, Stromae<\/em><\/a>, Bernard Adamus<\/a>,<\/em> and Chantal Archambault <\/em><\/a>to name a few.<\/p>\n

Outside of la Francophonie<\/strong><\/a>, la langue fran\u00e7aise<\/strong> draws people to it for its ties to the unique French culture. Sometimes non-native French speakers even break into the French music scene by singing les tubes<\/strong> en fran\u00e7ais<\/strong><\/a> (hit songs in French). One of my favorite examples of non-native speakers becoming famous en France<\/strong> is MIKA<\/em>, especially his song Elle me dit danse<\/strong><\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Although it makes sense for les pays<\/strong> (the countries) close to France to chanter<\/strong> en fran\u00e7ais<\/strong> (sing in French), it can be surprising how far away from France you can hear original songs being sung en fran\u00e7ais<\/strong> by non-native speakers.<\/p>\n

One such group is Monsieur Perin\u00e9<\/em><\/strong>, a jazz<\/a> group de la Colombie<\/strong> (from Colombia) that takes more than its name from la langue de Moli\u00e8re<\/strong> (the language of Moli\u00e8re<\/em>, French idiom referring to the French langauge).<\/p>\n

Le groupe<\/strong> (the group) started in 2007 when la voix princiaple<\/strong> (the main singer), Catalina Garc\u00eda<\/em>, met with a few musicians dans un parc<\/strong> (in a parc). They started playing music together and soon after came up with the idea of making their hobby a career. Their music has since evolved and they now play shows around the world and have become successful with their unique blend of le jazz manouche<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, swing, and pop music.<\/p>\n

Most of the songs du groupe<\/strong> are en espagnol<\/strong><\/a> (in Spanish), but they do occasionally chanter en fran\u00e7ais<\/strong>. Leur chanson<\/strong> (their song), Cou-Cou<\/strong><\/em> is entirely in French and will get stuck in your head, having you singing along as soon as it starts. Les paroles<\/strong> (the lyrics) are easy to understand and la musique<\/strong> will make you think of sitting au caf\u00e9<\/a> \u00e0 Paris <\/strong>(at a caf\u00e9 in Paris)!<\/p>\n
