At the time I was talking about one of my favorite restaurants in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>During my recent travels around France, I discovered a few more <strong>choses typiques et charmantes.*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rochefort-en-Terre<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-27808\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/09\/IMG_5214-e1504998293210-350x263.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"263\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Not to be confused with the coastal (Atlantic) port city of Rochefort (made famous by the French film director Jacques Demy in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/mind-your-manners\/\">Les demoiselles de Rochefort<\/a><\/strong>), Rochefort-en-Terre is a charming little village that was not far from <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/a-perfect-trip\/\">where we were staying in Brittany<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-27806\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/09\/2017-09-09-2-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>Voted \u201c<strong>Village pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9 des Fran\u00e7ais\u201d<\/strong> in 2016 (the result of <strong>un concours t\u00e9l\u00e9vis\u00e9<\/strong> \/ <em>a television competition or contest)<\/em>, Rochefort-en-Terre is one of Brittany\u2019s most visited towns \u2026 and for good reason.<\/p>\n<p>Perched atop <strong>une colline<\/strong> (<em>a hill<\/em>) the picturesque town comprised of old squares, charming buildings, cafes, shops and more, surrounds both an old manor (currently under restauration) and a walled fortress. You can stroll the cobblestone streets (<strong>le centre-ville<\/strong> \/<em> the downtown area<\/em> is <strong>une zone pi\u00e9tonne<\/strong> \/ <em>a pedestrian zone<\/em> during the day), enjoy <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/food-and-drink-in-brittany\/\">une bol\u00e9e de cidre<\/a><\/strong> in a local caf\u00e9, shop for local crafts in the many <strong>magasins<\/strong> (<em>shops, stores)<\/em>, or enjoy the many flowers!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-27807 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/09\/IMG_5246-e1504998258792-263x350.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"263\" height=\"350\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-27810 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/09\/IMG_5221-e1504998350872-350x263.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"263\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-27811 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/09\/IMG_5238-e1504998373203-263x350.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"263\" height=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Rochefort-en-Terre is classified <strong>quatre fleurs <\/strong>(<em>four flowers)<\/em> by the organisation <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.villes-et-villages-fleuris.com\/accueil_1.html\">Villes et Villages Fleuris<\/a><\/strong> whose mission is to help improve the quality of life, support business development, drive tourism, and support the environment by encouraging and recognizing the efforts by communities to develop a rich plant life and beautify their local with flowers, trees, and shrubs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Le Fest-noz<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On our last free night in Brittany my little family snuck off for a dinner in town by ourselves and came upon a unique spectacle. <strong>Fest-noz<\/strong> is <strong>breton<\/strong> for <strong>f\u00eate de nuit<\/strong> (<em>night party)<\/em> and it means a local dance or <strong>bal<\/strong> where the local townsfolk gather to enjoy music, good company, and to dance. The tradition began in the lower Brittany region and has since spread beyond, and how lucky were we to be here in the heart of Brittany and be able to enjoy a show with our dinner!
