La semaine derni\u00e8re<\/strong> (last week), after looking up where the expression un \u00e9t\u00e9 indien<\/strong><\/em><\/a> (an Indian summer) comes from, I was surprised to learn about Joe Dassin<\/em> and his seemingly interesting mix of being a French singer with origins aux \u00c9tats-Unis<\/strong> (in the United States).<\/p>\n

Joe Dassin<\/em> is an American with an interesting and international background. Both his parents are American, but sa famille<\/strong> (his family) moved to Europe after son p\u00e8re<\/strong> (his father) was blacklisted from Hollywood for being a member of le Parti communiste am\u00e9ricain<\/strong> (the American Communist Party). He spent the later half of his childhood moving around Europe, studying in many countries around the continent.<\/p>\n

Il a pass\u00e9 son bac<\/a> \u00e0 Grenoble en Suisse<\/strong> (he graduated high school in Grenoble in Switzerland; literally he passed his baccalaureate – <\/em>final high school exam) and then attended university aux<\/a> \u00c9tats-Unis<\/strong> (in the United States). He completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s en anthropologie<\/strong> (in anthropology) at l’Universit\u00e9 du Michigan<\/strong> (the University of Michigan) before deciding to move back to France.<\/p>\n

Une fois en France<\/strong> (once in France) he began working for son p\u00e8re<\/strong> helping out in his films before starting his music career. Today il est connu comme le loup blanc<\/strong> (he is a household name; literally he is known as the white wolf<\/em>) with his many memorable songs spanning over his long career.<\/p>\n

Sa chanson la plus connue<\/strong> (his most well known song) is of course Les Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9e<\/a><\/em> and once I realized that, I was surprised to learn that such a famous French song was sung by un am\u00e9ricain<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

After learning more about le chanteur am\u00e9ricain<\/strong> (the American singer) I had to look up la chanson<\/strong> (the song) from la semaine derni\u00e8re<\/strong><\/a> and hear what L’\u00e9t\u00e9 indien<\/strong><\/em> sounded like. Take a moment and listen to la chanson<\/strong> and add another Joe Dassin<\/em> song to your list of favorite musique fran\u00e7aise<\/strong><\/a>!<\/p>\n
