The first game played in France, occurred on March 8, 1889.\u00a0\u00a0<em>Le premier championnat<\/em> (the first tournament) took place during World War I. Today, baseball is known as a primarily American sport in France and is not given much media coverage despite its long history in the country. Professional baseball in France is overseen by la F\u00e9d\u00e9ration fran\u00e7aise de baseball et softball.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-29278\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/10\/architecture-1851149_960_720.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"501\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/10\/architecture-1851149_960_720.jpg 960w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/10\/architecture-1851149_960_720-350x234.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/10\/architecture-1851149_960_720-768x513.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Since we are in the midst of another World Series this week, we&#8217;ll look into the role baseball plays in France today.\u00a0L&#8217;\u00e9quipe de\u00a0France\u00a0de\u00a0baseball\u00a0is the French national team, which represents the country in both le Championnat d&#8217;Europe de baseball\u00a0and la\u00a0Coupe du monde de baseball.\u00a0L&#8217;\u00e9quipe de\u00a0France\u00a0de\u00a0baseball played its first game in 1929 against<em> l&#8217;\u00c9spagne<\/em> (Spain). In 1999, the team took third place in the European championship. However, that was its highest ranking in recent years. Qu\u00e9becois baseball terminology differs in some way from the French terms listed above.
