Licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-christmas-carols-and-their-english-equivalents\/\"><strong>Les chants de No\u00ebl<\/strong><\/a> are a big part of the ambiance of the holiday season. <strong>Les chansons<\/strong> (the songs) complete the scene of <strong>les chausettes de No\u00ebl<\/strong> (Christmas stockings) resting above<strong> la chemin\u00e9e<\/strong> (the fireplace) with a pile of <strong>cadeaux<\/strong> (gifts, presents) waiting under the wonderful <strong>sapin de No\u00ebl<\/strong> (Christmas tree).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Le sapin de No\u00ebl<\/strong> is lucky enough to have its own <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/a-christmas-carol-en-version-francaise\/\"><strong>chant de No\u00ebl<\/strong><\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Mon beau sapin<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>O Christmas Tree (literally: My Beautiful Fir Tree)\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>La chanson<\/strong>, like <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/calendrier-de-lavent-waiting-for-christmas-in-french\/\"><strong>le calendrier d&#8217;Avent<\/strong><\/a>, is a holiday tradition that came from Germany. <em><strong>Mon beau sapin<\/strong> <\/em>was originally called <em>O Tannenbaum<\/em> <strong>en allemand<\/strong> (in <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/german\/\">German<\/a>) and translates to <em>O Fir Tree<\/em>. <strong>Ses origines<\/strong> (its origins) go back as far as 1550, but it&#8217;s the more modern version written by <em>Ernst Ansh\u00fctz<\/em> in 1824 that became known all over the world.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, <strong>la chanson<\/strong> did not specifically refer to <strong>No\u00ebl<\/strong> at first, but slowly became associated with the holiday with the rise in popularity of <strong>les sapins de No\u00ebl<\/strong>.
