Les chants de No\u00ebl<\/strong><\/a> are a big part of the ambiance of the holiday season. Les chansons<\/strong> (the songs) complete the scene of les chausettes de No\u00ebl<\/strong> (Christmas stockings) resting above la chemin\u00e9e<\/strong> (the fireplace) with a pile of cadeaux<\/strong> (gifts, presents) waiting under the wonderful sapin de No\u00ebl<\/strong> (Christmas tree).<\/p>\n

Le sapin de No\u00ebl<\/strong> is lucky enough to have its own chant de No\u00ebl<\/strong><\/a>:<\/p>\n

Mon beau sapin<\/strong>
\nO Christmas Tree (literally: My Beautiful Fir Tree)\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

La chanson<\/strong>, like le calendrier d’Avent<\/strong><\/a>, is a holiday tradition that came from Germany. Mon beau sapin<\/strong> <\/em>was originally called O Tannenbaum<\/em> en allemand<\/strong> (in German<\/a>) and translates to O Fir Tree<\/em>. Ses origines<\/strong> (its origins) go back as far as 1550, but it’s the more modern version written by Ernst Ansh\u00fctz<\/em> in 1824 that became known all over the world.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, la chanson<\/strong> did not specifically refer to No\u00ebl<\/strong> at first, but slowly became associated with the holiday with the rise in popularity of les sapins de No\u00ebl<\/strong>. By the 20th century it was a standard chant de No\u00ebl<\/strong> like Au Royaume du Bonhomme Hiver<\/strong><\/em><\/a> and was translated into many languages, including anglais et fran\u00e7ais<\/strong> (English and French).<\/p>\n
