Licensed under CC0.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Most of the time when I hear a strange combination of <strong>des mots<\/strong> (some words) like <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/a-household-white-wolf-idioms-in-french\/\"><em>being known like the white wolf<\/em><\/a>, I know it&#8217;s <strong>une expression<\/strong> I need to learn.<\/p>\n<p>However, I had a fun counterexample to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/buckle-up-and-learn-a-new-french-expression\/\">my usual experience<\/a> <strong>r\u00e9cemment<\/strong> (recently). I was working on a big stressful project <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/ceos-and-general-manager-presidents-french-corporate-vocabulary\/\"><strong>au travail<\/strong><\/a> (at work) and <strong>m<\/strong><strong>on coll\u00e8gue<\/strong> (my coworker) must have seen how distraught I looked. To try and cheer me up and not let <strong>la stresse<\/strong> get to me, they looked at me and said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Petit \u00e0 petit l&#8217;oiseau fait son nid.\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Little by little the bird makes its nest.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I had never heard <strong>l&#8217;expression<\/strong> before, but it immediately made sense and <strong>la stresse<\/strong> fell away for a moment as I thanked <strong>mon coll\u00e8gue<\/strong> for teaching me something new! I still had a ways to go on the project, but the small triumph of understanding <strong>une nouvelle <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/to-do-the-point-fun-french-expressions\/\">expression<\/a> fran\u00e7aise<\/strong> made the day much better.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Une fois chez moi<\/strong> (once I was home), I looked up <strong>l&#8217;expression<\/strong> to find out if there was an equivalent <strong>en anglais<\/strong>. The best I could find is the familiar moral of <em><strong>La li\u00e8vre et la torture<\/strong><\/em> (the Tortoise and the Hare):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Slow and steady wins the race.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>No matter how you say it, it&#8217;s a nice phrase to hear when you are feeling overwhelmed.
