Licensed under CC0.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The most common <strong>st\u00e9r\u00e9otype am\u00e9ricain <\/strong>that is the end of many jokes for me here <strong>en France<\/strong> is that all Americans love <strong>les hamburgers <\/strong>(hamburgers).<\/p>\n<p>Like with <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/is-a-french-kiss-really-french-part-1\/\">French fries<\/a> not being from <strong>la France<\/strong>, there&#8217;s an irony in the stereotypically American food originally being from <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/my-beautiful-fir-tree-o-christmas-tree-in-french\/\"><strong>l&#8217;Allemagne<\/strong> <\/a>(Germany) and not <strong>les \u00c9tats-Unis<\/strong> (the United States). <strong>Cependant<\/strong> (however), that doesn&#8217;t stop the hamburger punch line from being repeated, especially if the subject of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/a-little-french-breakfast-vocabulary-to-start-the-day\/\">traditional cuisine<\/a> comes up.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Et toi John, tu veux manger un hamburger !<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>And you John, you want to eat a hamburger!<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While it can get old hearing the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-knock-knock-jokes\/\">same joke<\/a> over and over, it also inspired me to learn <strong>des nouveaux mots<\/strong> (new words), because I quickly realized I had no idea to talk about what goes into making <strong>un bon hamburger<\/strong> or how to properly explain the difference between <strong>le fast-food<\/strong> and a backyard <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/put-another-word-on-the-barbie-french-barbecues\/\">barbecue<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Instead of seeing it as an annoying situation, I prefer to look at it as a way to open up conversations and gain insight into <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/how-to-write-a-polite-formula-in-french\/\"><strong>la culture fran\u00e7aise<\/strong><\/a>.
