La f\u00eate des p\u00e8res<\/strong> (Father’s Day) is just around the corner! Unlike la f\u00eate des m\u00e8res<\/a> <\/strong>(Mother’s Day), cette f\u00eate <\/strong>(this holiday) doesn’t involve remembering two different dates when you’re from les \u00c9tats-Unis<\/strong>! In both France and aux USA<\/strong>, la f\u00eate<\/strong> falls on the third Sunday of June.<\/p>\n

La f\u00eate des p\u00e8res<\/strong> is both a new and old holiday. The tradition<\/a> of having a day of celebration for your father goes back to at least le Moyen \u00c2ge<\/strong><\/a>, but the modern holiday is more of an American export.<\/p>\n

In every version of la f\u00eate des p\u00e8res<\/strong> throughout history<\/a>, I imagine it has always been difficult to know what exactly to get un papa<\/strong> (a dad) for leur f\u00eate<\/strong>. Even today it can still be difficult, but fortunately a lot of dad gifts<\/em> have become standard over the years.<\/p>\n

Of course, les papas<\/strong> will be content with a good laugh when they make a corny joke<\/a>, and in that spirit of les blagues nulles<\/strong> (bad jokes) or dad jokes<\/em>, stores everywhere stock up with novelty ties, mugs, shirts, and any other dad gift<\/em> you can think of. It boils down to finding a million<\/a> way to say:<\/p>\n

Peu importe<\/strong> (no matter) how bad le jeu de mots<\/strong><\/a> (play on words), the most important part of la f\u00eate des p\u00e8res<\/strong> is having la famille<\/strong> (the famil) send a loving message:<\/p>\n
