Before <strong>la chanson<\/strong> ends you&#8217;ll be singing <strong>les paroles<\/strong> (the lyrics) or at least humming <strong>la m\u00e9lodie<\/strong> as you try to remember the words. Even if you are not a fan of poppy music, you can&#8217;t help but smile and want to sing after hearing <em><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/she-tells-me-to-dance-mika-in-french\/\">MIKA<\/a><\/em> or <em><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-pop-music-this-game-by-yelle\/\">YELLE<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dans la m\u00eame veine<\/strong> (in the same vein), <strong>la <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/folk-music-in-french-chantal-archambault\/\">musicienne<\/a><\/strong> <em>Joyce Jonathan<\/em> is a French pop sensation with many fun and easy to understand <strong>chansons<\/strong>. Her career started in the late 2000s when she posted a few of her original songs on <strong>le r\u00e9seau social<\/strong> (the social network), <em>MySpace<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0<\/strong> (thanks to) being posted on <strong>le r\u00e9seau social<\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/his-or-her-cup-confusing-possessive-adjectives-in-french\/\">ses<\/a> chansons<\/strong> began to spread around the internet, which led to her being signed to a major label and becoming a breakout star in the French music scene. One of her songs, <em><strong>L&#8217;heure avait sonn\u00e9<\/strong> (the hour had struck)<\/em>, was even featured on the popular television show, <em>Gossip Girl<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p><em>Joyce Jonathan<\/em> has produced many successful albums filled with amazing <strong>chansons<\/strong> since that first post on her <em>MySpace<\/em>. <strong>Ma chanson pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e<\/strong> (my favorite song) is featured on her second album, <em><strong>Caract\u00e8re<\/strong><\/em>, and was <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/absolutely-formidable-french-music\/\"><strong>un tube<\/strong><\/a> (a hit) soon after its release as a single:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u00c7a Ira<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>It&#8217;ll be fine<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The song is a playful take on <strong>l&#8217;amour adolescent<\/strong> (puppy love, young love) and all the thoughts that fill young hearts when they first <strong>tombent amoureux<\/strong> (fall in love). <strong>La chanson<\/strong> is also hiding a fun little<em><strong> easter egg <\/strong><\/em>for anyone who loves French literature:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>J&#8217;aime les airs assur\u00e9s que tu empruntes aux plus beaux monuments<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>I like the self-confident look you borrow from the boldest monuments<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Le vers<\/strong> (the verse) is a reference to <em><strong>La Beaut\u00e9<\/strong> (the beauty)<\/em>, a poem by <em>Chalres Baudelaire<\/em> from his collection, <em><strong>Les Fleurs du mal<\/strong> (The Flowers of Evil)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Take a moment and listen to <em><strong>\u00c7a Ira<\/strong><\/em>.
