After several months of studying une langue<\/strong> (a language) it’s sometimes hard to find the motivation to keep going. Actually applying all the new information sometimes feels futile if you only use la langue<\/strong> in the classroom. Heureusement<\/strong><\/a> (luckily), there are many ways to bring French to life and make studying fun!<\/p>\n

Playing games and listening to la musique<\/strong><\/a> (music) are great ways to make French a part of your life. Hearing a catchy tune will have you singing les paroles<\/strong> (the lyrics) of une chanson fran\u00e7aise<\/strong><\/a> (a French song) and applying that French knowledge.<\/p>\n

I also like to use les jeux vid\u00e9o<\/strong><\/a> (video games), like StarCraft<\/em><\/a>, to help keep la langue<\/strong> (the language) alive and a part of my hobbies and not just a requirement for school or un job<\/strong><\/a>. Of course, building a fun environment to play with le fran\u00e7ais<\/strong> can be applied to all kinds of jeux <\/strong>and is in no way limited to les jeux vid\u00e9o<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

Par exemple<\/strong> (for example), Akinator<\/em> is a fun jeu<\/strong> that anyone can play. It’s an adaptation of 20 questions<\/em>. Within 20 (or more) questions Akinator<\/em> can guess who you are thinking of, starting with very basic ideas and working down to more and more specific details. It can often be surprising how quickly the genie guesses correctly nearly any character!<\/p>\n

All you need to play is un navigateur<\/strong> (a browser) and le lien<\/strong><\/a> (the link), but make sure you play the game en fran\u00e7ais<\/strong>! In the top left corner there is a small box and if it does not look like the one below, cliquez-le<\/strong> (click it) and select Fran\u00e7ais<\/strong> ??.<\/p>\n

Then all you need to do is cliquer<\/strong><\/a> on the big JOUER<\/strong> (PLAY)<\/em> button at the bottom of the screen and think of ton personage <\/strong>(your character)!<\/p>\n

Akinator<\/em> will try to deviner<\/strong> (guess) your personnage<\/strong> as he narrows down the possible answers. Les questions<\/strong> start off very basic and are easy to understand:<\/p>\n

Is your character a youtuber<\/a>?<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n

Some questions may include new or difficult vocabulary, but that makes learning les nouveaux mots<\/strong> (the new words) a fun activity rather than something you need to do in order to pass a test. After you understand la question<\/strong>, all you need to do is appropriately answer:<\/p>\n

Oui, Non, Ne sais pas, Probablement, Probablement pas<\/strong>

You may think les questions<\/strong> are going nowhere, but Akinator<\/em> will usually ask a question that makes it clear he is figuring out who ton personnage<\/strong> is:<\/p>\n

In this exemple<\/strong>, after a few more questions le g\u00e9nie<\/strong> (the genie) knew who I was thinking of and asked if he had guessed correctly:<\/p>\n

Akinator <\/em>is a fun example of using un jeu<\/strong> to practice French. It’s a nice break from textbooks<\/a>, but still puts your French to the test.<\/p>\n
