On this <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-culture-driving-in-france\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">most recent trip<\/a>, I took my son William up to the Sacr\u00e9 Coeur de Montmartre and was <strong>enchant\u00e9 <\/strong>\u00a0(<em>enchanted<\/em>) by\u00a0<strong>des nouveaux d\u00e9couverts<\/strong> (<em>new\u00a0<\/em><i>discoveries<\/i>).<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-30845\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/10\/IMG_6325-1-263x350.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"263\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/10\/IMG_6325-1-263x350.jpg 263w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/10\/IMG_6325-1.jpg 756w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 263px) 100vw, 263px\" \/>La maison de Dalida<\/strong> \/ <em>Dalida&#8217;s house<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I made my first trek up\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.parisinfo.com\/transport\/73164\/Butte-Montmartre\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>la butte<\/strong> <strong>Montmartre<\/strong><\/a> (<em>the hill of Montmartre<\/em>) with my host father in 1986. At the time, I wasn&#8217;t allowed to go alone, because the area around the base of the hill (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.parisinfo.com\/transport\/73267\/Quartier-Pigalle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pigalle<\/a>) was not a very nice neighborhood. On this return trip, I was delighted to stumble across the former <b>r\u00e9sidence<\/b>\u00a0(<em>home)<\/em> of the great late French singer <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/third-time-is-the-charm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dalida<\/a>. This seemingly unassuming <a href=\"http:\/\/dalida.com\/maison-de-dalida.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">home<\/a> &#8230; in a very exclusive neighborhood &#8230; was a refuge for the singer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Le Passe-Muraille<\/strong> \/ <em>The man who could walk through walls<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A few streets up from\u00a0<strong>la maison de Dalida<\/strong> and down from\u00a0<strong>l&#8217;\u00e9glise du Sacr\u00e9-Coeur<\/strong> is a strange little square with a bronze statue of a man coming out of a wall. Representing &#8216;<strong>un nomm\u00e9 Dutilleul&#8217;\u00a0<\/strong>(<em>one named Dutilleul<\/em>), the protagonist of a novella by Marcel Aym\u00e9,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.montmartre-guide.com\/en\/montmartre_stories\/the-passe-muraille\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>le passe-muraille<\/strong><\/a> reminds us to be careful of what we wish for and how we use our gifts in life.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30846 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/10\/passemuraille-1024x624.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"624\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/10\/passemuraille-1024x624.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/10\/passemuraille-350x213.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/10\/passemuraille-768x468.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sometimes we forget &#8230;\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; to look behind! The views of Montmartre from the center of Paris are spectacular &#8230; as are the views of the center of Paris from the heights of Montmartre. But sometimes we forget to look in\u00a0<em>all<\/em> directions. And the views from the &#8220;backside&#8221; of Montmartre are equally impressive.
