The best meal I ever ate, was just such a surprise. Travelling through Qu\u00e9bec on our way to viste\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/bons-baisers-damqui\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>la tante Rose<\/strong><\/a>, we found a marvelous meal, a wonderful\u00a0<strong>souvenir<\/strong> (<em>memory<\/em>), and a story we still tell.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 230px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rsr.transports.gouv.qc.ca\/Gestionnaires\/ObtenirImage.ashx?imgId=13142\" alt=\"Acheminemement et entr\u00c3\u00a9e du site d\u00e2\u0080\u0099un bureau d\u00e2\u0080\u0099information touristique\" width=\"220\" height=\"220\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Official Canadian Tourist Information Sign (for more info http:\/\/www.rsr.transports.gouv.qc.ca\/Dispositifs\/Details.aspx?cid=13142&amp;che=INDCT-EQUTO-INFTO&amp;cat=INFTO&amp;p=14&amp;ca=PetiteVignette)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>All of these wonderful memories were brought back last week when\u00a0<strong>ma tante C\u00e9cile (la soeur de ma belle-m\u00e8re)<\/strong> (<em>my aunt Cecile, my mother-in-law&#8217;s sister<\/em>) shared the video below with me.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"1-Auberge du Chemin Faisant\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-J4Qh5I7k2s?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Finding your way<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Just about every town in Qu\u00e9bec seems to have a little local information bureau that will provide tips and tricks for visiting the local community. You can find these handy keepers of wonderful secrets by following the blue signs shown above.<\/p>\n<p>While we were visiting <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cabano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cabano<\/a> (now part of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/T%C3%A9miscouata-sur-le-Lac\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">T\u00e9miscouata -sur-le-Lac<\/a>),\u00a0<strong>la ville natale de ma belle-m\u00e8re<\/strong> (<em>my mother-in-law&#8217;s home town<\/em>) the local <strong>bureau d&#8217;information touristique<\/strong> (<em>tourist information office)<\/em> sent us to a local art gallery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Le meilleur repas de ma vie<\/strong> \/\u00a0<em>The best meal of my life<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It turned out that the &#8216;art gallery&#8217; was:<br \/>\n1. Not just an art gallery &#8230; it was also an inn and a restaurant!<br \/>\n2. The art gallery\/inn\/restaurant was right across the street from the house <strong>de<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>la m\u00e8re de ma belle-m\u00e8re\u00a0<\/strong>(<em>my mother-in-law&#8217;s mother&#8217;s house)!<\/em><br \/>\n3. This little &#8216;hidden gem&#8217; is one of the most amazing dining experiences not only in Qu\u00e9bec, by anywhere I have ever dined.<\/p>\n<p>Not only did we enjoy an amazing 10 course meal of all\u00a0<b>produit du terroir\u00a0<\/b> (<em>locally grown produce)<\/em> but we enjoyed\u00a0<strong>ce repas unique<\/strong> (<em>this unique meal)\u00a0<\/em>in a mid century modern dining room where it turns out <strong>mes oncles et mes tantes ont jou\u00e9 en tant qu&#8217;enfant<\/strong> (<em>my uncles and aunts played as kids<\/em>), and it all ended with a virtuoso piano serenade by the chef!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes the best things in life are surprises.
