Nous sommes le mardi, 25 d\u00e9cembre et c’est No\u00ebl! <\/strong>(It’s Tuesday December 25th… It’s Christmas!). <\/em>Whether you are celebrating the holiday or partake of different seasonal traditions, it seems like a perfect time to highlight a few more of my favorite holiday traditions from France.<\/p>\n

La b\u00fbche de No\u00ebl<\/strong> \/ The Christmas log<\/em><\/p>\n

Not to be confused with une bouche de No\u00ebl <\/strong>(Which isn’t a thing! What would you do with a Christmas mouth?!!), <\/em>but to be eaten with your bouche<\/strong> (mouth), <\/em>la b\u00fbche de No\u00ebl <\/strong>is the traditional dessert served at the end of the French Christmas dinner. Josh shared a great overview\u00a0here<\/a> a few years back. And this article from Le Figaro on line<\/a> highlights cinq<\/strong> (five) <\/em>unique b\u00fbches <\/strong>that you can enjoy if you happen to find yourself in Paris this Christmas. I especially like the looks of the “Sid\u00e9ral<\/a>*<\/strong>” “surmont\u00e9e d’une fus\u00e9e, d’une \u00e9toile filante et d’une plan\u00e8te<\/strong> … and exp\u00e9diable par la Poste!<\/strong> … But probably not to the US \ud83d\ude41 … (topped with a rocket, a shooting star and a planet … and deliverable by post).<\/em><\/p>\n

Les cr\u00e8ches de No\u00ebl<\/strong> \/ Christmas nativities<\/em><\/p>\n

What would Christmas be without the sight of a manager. The most famous French manger scenes feature les santons<\/a>. <\/strong>Today les cr\u00e8ches <\/strong>come in many different shapes and sizes and you can see some truly amazing ones in Paris<\/a>. According to the article, the most amazing is found at Saint-S\u00e9verin in the Ve <\/strong><\/a>(the fifth arrondissement). <\/em>“L’or et la lumi\u00e8re, la blancheur de la porcelaine et le bois sont des symboles que l’on retrouve …<\/strong>” (Gold and light, the white of the porcelain and the wood are symbols that one discovers<\/em> …). Pour ma part <\/strong>(For me<\/em>), I prefer the featured cr\u00e8che <\/strong>at Saint Andr\u00e9 de l’Europe (VIIIe) by Isabeau d’Abzac.<\/a><\/p>\n
