It may be time to wind down the season and maybe even leave the warmth of our winter beds<\/a>, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to stop celebrating the holidays! While we wait for the new year, there’s still some time to enjoy les f\u00eates<\/strong> (the holidays) and learn one more chant de No\u00ebl<\/strong><\/a> (Christmas carol) en fran\u00e7ais<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Whether you need to find a way to help ton nouveau-n\u00e9<\/strong><\/a> (your newborn) fall asleep or you want to learn how to say\u00a0Foutaises <\/strong>!<\/em><\/a> (Bah Humbug!<\/em>), there is a lot of vocabulary to learn in all the fun of the season. Unlike l’Halloween<\/strong><\/a>, No\u00ebl<\/strong> has a long history in France and that comes with all sorts of songs and poems to create the winter wonderland atmosphere in everyone’s heart during the month of December.<\/p>\n

La magie du P\u00e8re No\u00ebl et ses elfes<\/strong> (the magic of Santa and his elves) paints a snowy picture of decorations, presents, a warm fireplace, and les march\u00e9s de No\u00ebl<\/a><\/strong> (Christmas markets). Cependant<\/strong> (however), the reality of Christmas, at least \u00e0 Paris<\/strong><\/a>, is rarely filled with snow. It may be cold and rainy, but having a real white Christmas is somewhat rare for la ville des lumi\u00e8res <\/strong>(The City of Light, term for Paris).<\/p>\n

Cela dit<\/strong> (that said), the famous song, No\u00ebl Blanc<\/strong> (White Christmas<\/em>) does exist en fran\u00e7ais<\/strong> and paints a similar image to la version anglaise<\/strong><\/a> (the English version). It’s a more contemporary song by Bing Crosby in 1941, but has become an international trademark of l’\u00e9sprit<\/strong><\/a> (the spirit) of the season. La version fran\u00e7aise<\/strong> (the French version) is slightly different from la version originale<\/strong>, but like most other chants de No\u00ebl<\/strong><\/a>, it’s still instantly recognizable, making it easy to follow along.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s tout<\/strong> (after all), it’s not a big problem and les paroles diff\u00e9rentes<\/strong> (the different lyrics) just add to the fun for French learners! So while you have a few moments in between le nouvel an<\/a> et No\u00ebl<\/strong> (New Year’s and Christmas), take a moment to listen to le chant de No\u00ebl<\/strong> and keep dreaming of a peaceful holiday time.<\/p>\n
