On my very first visit to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/aout-en-bretagne\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>la Bretagne<\/strong><\/a> my host brother took me to see <strong>le Mont Saint-Michel <\/strong>and to the ruins of an ancient <strong>ch\u00e2teau fort <\/strong>in the middle of the woods. For a kid from <strong>les Etats-Unis <\/strong>(<em>the United States) <\/em>seeing these old buildings was amazing.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-31165\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/02\/IMG_7252-350x262.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"262\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/02\/IMG_7252-350x262.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/02\/IMG_7252-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/02\/IMG_7252-1024x767.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But keeping all of these <strong>splendeurs<\/strong> (<em>splendors) <\/em>sparkling and accessible to the public takes work. Enter <a href=\"https:\/\/dartagnans.fr\/fr\/home\/index\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Dartagnans!<\/strong><\/a> Launched by Romain Delaume and\u00a0 named for the hero of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-culture-the-modern-musical\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Les trois mousquetaires<\/strong><\/a>, Dartagans is <strong>le start-up qui veut sauver les ch\u00e2teaux<\/strong> (<em>the start-up who wants to save the castles).<\/em> It is, according to their site, <strong>la platforme de crowdfunding (autrement dit de financement participative) exclusivement d\u00e9di\u00e9e au rayonnement et \u00e0 la pr\u00e9servation de patrimoine <\/strong>(<em>the crowdfunding (or participative financing) platform exclusively dedicated to the highlighting and protection of the national heritage\/legacy).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dartagnans, la start-up qui r\u00e9investit le patrimoine\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pbHEuyORuVY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div class=\"woo-sc-box  normal   \">Speaking of <strong>patrimoine<\/strong>, did you know that UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) has a list dedicated to the preservation of the world\u2019s treasures? You can see a list of the locations throughout France (including le Mont Saint-Michel and the Banks of the Seine!) <a href=\"https:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/statesparties\/fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/div>\n<p>Modeled on an English concept, Romain and his co-founder sought to bring together users on the internet (<strong>des internautes) <\/strong>with property owners who wanted help preserving their historic properties. They\u2019re even helping support some of France\u2019s most famous locations \u2026 including one of my favorites, le chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte and its great clock.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Vaux-le-Vicomte n&#039;a plus le temps\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Um4GTVMsqOM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div class=\"woo-sc-box  normal   \">Vaux-le-Vicomte is in many ways the godfather to much-better-known Chateau de Versailles. Louis XIV chose as the creators of his magnificent palace the same artists who made Vaux the jewel in Nicolas Fouquet\u2019s (Louis\u2019s finance minister) crown. Louis Le Vau served as architect on both chateaux, Charles le Brun as painter, and Andr\u00e9 La N\u00f4tre as landscape architect.
