This past weekend was la f\u00eate des M\u00e8res<\/strong> (Mother’s Day), or at least it was aux \u00c9tats-Unis<\/strong> (in the United States). If you’re French<\/a>, ne vous inqui\u00e9tez pas<\/strong> (don’t worry), it’s not Mother’s Day until next week!<\/p>\n

This year was a particularly special f\u00eate des M\u00e8res<\/strong> for ma famille<\/strong><\/a> (my family). It was the first time ma petite soeur<\/strong> (my little sister) celebrated it as une m\u00e8re<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

The special occasion had me thinking about how there are a lot of cadeaux traditionnels<\/strong> (traditional gifts) for la f\u00eate des M\u00e8res<\/strong>. Cependant<\/strong> (however), for any nouvelle Maman<\/strong><\/a> (new Mom) with their hands full of dirty diapers and a hungry baby, I think one of the best gifts is anything that provides a few moments of rest.<\/p>\n

Something like une berceuse<\/strong><\/a> (a lullaby) to put le nouveau-n\u00e9<\/strong> (the newborn) to sleep or even just an offer to watch the lovely child for a few hours seems to be a safe bet.<\/p>\n

Along those same lines, une comptine<\/strong><\/a> (a nursery rhyme) or un conte de f\u00e9e<\/strong><\/a> (a fairly tale) that keeps the little one happy and entertained<\/a> is a welcome source of relaxation. Something as simple as jouer a faire coucou<\/strong> (playing peekaboo) or singing a silly song can go a long way in making life easier for une Maman fatigu\u00e9e<\/strong> (a tired Mom).<\/p>\n

So while I was thinking about ma famille<\/strong><\/a>, I wanted to share a fun little comptine fran\u00e7aise<\/strong> about un petit escargot mignon<\/strong> (a cute little snail). As strange as it may sound for mes amis anglophones<\/strong> (my English speaking friends), les escargots<\/strong> are seen as cute and friendly even for French babies!<\/p>\n

La comptine<\/strong> is called petit escargot<\/strong> (little snail)<\/em> and is simple enough for anyone to follow along and sing to un b\u00e9b\u00e9<\/strong><\/a> (a baby). It’s simple design makes it perfect for adding fun gestures that babies can follow and slowly learn.<\/p>\n

Even if your French isn’t perfect, I’m confident you can sing along to petit escargot<\/strong> <\/em>and help out une M\u00e8re<\/strong> in your life as a small gift for the holiday.<\/p>\n
