When la chanson<\/strong> comes with an even sillier video, all the stress of the day just disappears for at least a few minutes.<\/p>\n

Claude Fran\u00e7ois<\/em> is one of the biggest names in la musique fran\u00e7aise<\/strong><\/a> (French Music) from les ann\u00e9es 60s<\/strong> (the 60s). A decade that saw the explosion of rock and roll and a pretty huge shift in culture.<\/p>\n

Cloclo<\/em>, as he was nicknamed, was not actually born in France though. The famous French singer<\/a> began his life en \u00c9gypte<\/strong> (in Egypt)! Son p\u00e8re<\/strong><\/a> (his father) worked at le canal de Suez<\/strong> (the Suez Canal) when it was still controlled by the French and English when Claude<\/em> was born.<\/p>\n

Sa famille<\/a><\/strong> (his family) was forced to move back to France in the mid 50s after le canal de Suez<\/strong> was nationalized and after a few years of instability, he broke out into super stardom in the 60s.<\/p>\n

Sa carri\u00e8re<\/strong> (his career) was incredibly expansive and he produced some big hits like Cette ann\u00e9e-l\u00e0, Le Lundi au soleil, Le t\u00e9l\u00e9phone pleure<\/strong> (That Year There, Mondays in the Sun, The Telephone Cries),<\/em> and he’s even behind the original version of one of Frank Sinatra’s most famous songs, My Way<\/em>, or rather Comme d’habitude<\/em> en version originale<\/a><\/strong> (As Usual <\/em>in its original version).<\/p>\n

After Tim’s lesson on le vocabulaire de voiture<\/strong><\/a> (car vocabulary) earlier this week, I didn’t want to share one of the more well known songs and instead wanted to introduce everyone to a goofy little song he did in the early 60s about une voiture<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

Even if you’re from l’outre-Atlantique<\/strong> (North America<\/em>, litteraly: the other side of the Atlantic), the dated humor and wacky dance moves<\/a> are instantly recognizable as belonging to les ann\u00e9es 60s<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As an added bonus for everyone learning le fran\u00e7ais<\/strong>, la chanson<\/strong><\/a> (the song) really drives<\/em> home how to use the right pronoun with gendered nouns<\/a>. It also works really well pour les anglophones<\/strong> (for English speakers) in this song since cars<\/em> are one of the few nouns that can kind of work in the same way en anglais<\/strong>!<\/p>\n
